  1. Imli, "Indian Tapas", Wardour Street.

Very, very nice. Not cheap (lunch for two with drinks was £80[1]) but
quite authentic Indian food[2] and great service.

    Recommended.

[1] Cure darsy "I spend that on starters".
[2] Some of it 'kin hot in a "Johnny Cash" stylee.

searched the archives, you'd realise you're making a complete tit out

But it's cheap entertainment, so don't let me put you off.

Do snip .sigs, there's a good chap.
You don't find the food in (for example) Thiruvananthapuram hot?

You must have a rather odd palate. Still, each to their own, I suppose.

Of course, I've only worked in eleven or so Indian states, so there may
be a part that has a non-spicy cuisine. In which case I bow to your
    superior knowledge.

  8. The Mint Leaf is rather nice, especially if you want to hang around and blow
your bonus on rather good cocktails after your meal.

How much does authentic Indian differ from the standard UK 'Indian'? I
have eaten in India but at tourist hotels as a teenager; all I can
recall was hankering after beans on toast.
    Is it catching?

It's not fair. I was his sock puppet last time. How come you get to
be? Have you been bribing him with Werther's?

is off the menu the long days must just drag by.

The last time I ate in the Cinnamon club the bill came to about £80 a
head. The last time I ate in Brick Lane, the bill came to about £12 a
head. That may in part account for the difference.

IMHE, there is a great variety in spiciness throughout India, from
very mild to very hot. The South tends to be hotter, but I don't think
it's as hot as Sri Lanka.

I have done. Not generally, though, unless you're including pre-dinner
    drinks in the "starters" category.

Anyhoo... I'm pleased you enjoyed it, but I found Imli to be a
bit...tame when I last tried it.

If I'd be in that area looking for a "quality" Indian meal, I'd have
normally gone for the Red Fort, though I'll admit that I've not tried
it since it was re-opened after being nearly burnt down.

And hell, there's always the "Palms of Goa"[1] if you want a classic
    ukrm curry venue...

[1] really not a good curry house, but a good way to loose weight.

you've probably no idea how "odd" I've gone (to give you a mild hint,
I've just spent the last 20 minutes listening to bits of Siouxsie And
    the Banshees' "Peepshow" album.

The only booze I have in the house (apart from A.'s Leffe, which I'd
be in "some mild trouble" if I drank) is a bottle of Amaretto. Things
haven't got so bad I'll be going down that avenue.

I've just got back from at The Goshawk in Mouldsworth, near Runcorn.
Stuffed to the gills, pleasantly pickled and looking forward to a long
    night of indigestion.

    Also recommended.
