He drew a distinction between listing your number in the auction and
giving it to an individual when requested - a reasonable distinction I
    would have thought.

Ah, well that's a different point entirely. I'd rather spend 5 minutes
on the phone than several hours playing email hockey.

Oh, no, I quite agree. It's just something I wouldn't do.

When I queried ebay on their T&Cs, particularly the bit about "we'll do
what we want with your information", they said that it was to allow them
to give your contact details to any potential buyer that requested it.

  5. Heh, you're lucky. The sprogs here get 3 months summer holiday. And
they've all got 2 stroke mopeds!

You can pull the contact details, including phone numbers, of people
you've bought from or sold to, but otherwise you can't.

    On Thu, 16 Aug 2007 09:12:27 -0700,
One guy said he wanted to come & collect it the following day & pay
cash, as he knew the car when my mate's dad owned it & has been trying
to buy it for months. I told him I won't end the auction early, so he
got hold of my mate's number & rang him direct, to make the same offer.
    Bit naughty really.

Heh. LIfe sentence with no parole.

Oh it doesn't. Like I say, most of the time he's in the bozo box.
But I agree, hopefully if everyone does ignore it, it will
(eventually) vanish. Which would be nice.

You can you know. I don't know how you do it, but I got an email,
copied to the person enquiring, with the subject "eBay UK User
Information Request". That email contains the full contact details
(name, address & phone numbers) of both myself & the guy who presumably
requested it. I'll forward you a copy if you like.

If you're going to quote me, it would be better if you made it clear
that's what you're doing. But anyway, he got his number from my mate's
dad, who he knew how to get hold of having previously spoken to him
    about the car.

If he had managed to get the number off eBay, that would be bloody
impressive seeing as my mate doesn't have an account (hence the reason
I listed the car in the first place).

Which reminds me, we ain't done a good, old fashioned Gentleman's East

let's get down to the Banker again.
