hi i figured this would be the best place to ask, one of my mates who i've
known for a long time [1] and he's about to sit his CBT and all that
stuff. Basically I have a H reg gsf400vv bandit with 22,000 km on the
clock, brand new front tyre, manual and paddock stand that i was going to
flog him, problem is it needs a new wiring loom[2] so doesn't run and
has been sitting in my garage for almost a year. I'm Glasgow based in
case that makes a difference, but was figuring £400 would be fair. As an
aside he's a veggie and is talking about just riding in trainers and
jean's, i figure the Scottish weather will dampen [3] his enthusiasm for
this idea but it got me thinking you can get Kevlar suits but what about
boots almost all are made of leather.

[1] we met in primary school
[2] ride-on reckon it will be about £150 to sort but i have an sv now and
    love it
    [3]sorry couldn't resist

Hello, Your mate is really going to regret giving the cows a break
if he has to get intimate with the tarmac. The extermities of the body
really take a battering. So a good pair of boots and gloves are just as
important as a good helmet. Can't you use the argument that the cows
already gound up for Mc D's so he might as well use the skin to save his
neck, Use the old "It's what the cow would have wanted" story and point
    him at:

Lets hope if pot of luck emtpies as fast as his pot of expierence fills.

    Best of luck.

Actually most 'sporty' boots are now made of Lorica, which the marketing
people will tell you is better then leather, and it's vegan friendly.

During an independent (and unscientific) test it was discovered a pair
of Vans, and Levis 501 jeans proved stronger than a Seat Marbella in
    impacts of at least 30MPH.

If that's the way he's going I'd recommend the above.

I find that vegitariams make very good protective gear.

Hence the use of "marketing people"

I agree with you - my Sidi's have scuffed much more then either the Daytona
or Altberg pair I have, which are both leather.

And the people in the know will tell you that Lorica is shite.

IME marketing peoples' skin is so thick you'd never get the boots on.
