Hey Does anyone have experience in replacing the headlamp (not the lens)
    in a BMW R1100GS?
My low beam went out, so I bought a replacement lamp and I examined the
    headlight fixture. It
is not obvious how to get to the bulb. I wanted to ask some advice
before I started tearing the instrument
    cluster out.

    Thanx in advance

At the front of the lamp are three screws, two at the bottom and one at
the top, that hold a bezel in place. Remove them and the bezel. Lift out
the lens/reflector/lamp assembly and unplug the lamp connectors
(headlight and the little dim one). Take the whole thing to a table work
work bench and lay it face down on a towel. You'll see a sort of spring
clippy thing that holds the socket into the reflector. Undo that and you
can pull out the lamp and socket. Replace the bulb -- be sure tho hold
the new one only by a piece of paper towel that you haven't touched the
other side of -- and put the socket back in. You may want to put a
sronger bulb in there; the stocker is pretty wimpy. But don't go all
out; the bucket isn't ventilated, and if it gets too hot it will melt. I
think I've got something like an 85W/65W bulb in mine.
