Replacement chains/sprockets

    Comes time again, it seems, to replace the chain and sprockets on my
    yzf-600 ('97). Looking at some of the on-line parts pages, it looks like
    there are about 2000 variaties of 530 chain and about 200 variaites of
    sprockets... Since I'm not racing, not a really aggressive rider, mostly
    commuting at this point, I probably don't need the $120 chains...

    So, who are the better manufacturers? Any suggestions on which of those
    200 chains to get? How about the on-line vendors? I'd like to order
    everything from one place, including the *$#*^% locknut on the driveshaft.

  2. I'd stick with an RK or DID o-ring chain, and standard steel
    sprockets--Sprocket Specialists makes decent steel sprockets. You're
    probably going to have to go to a Yamaha dealer for the locknut (washer?).
    I'd try Mach1Motorsports; they have a nice online parts fiche, and they'll
    mail the locknut to you if you don't want to make the trip to Vallejo. The
    hardest part is putting the new chain on--the best way is to use a riveted
    pin master link, and the tool to do that isn't cheap. Some here say using
    a good quality clip-type master-link is OK, but it's not what Yamaha
    recommends.

    I dunno if Yamaha offers a chain/sprocket kit for the 600, but
    I recently ordered the OEM replacement kit from AZ-Motorsports and it's
    shipped to my house for $135.

    That's a DID ZVM chain, with stock sprockets. Since I am going to get an
    easy 20k out of the stock combo, I decided to go with the OEM stuff again.

  4. I'd replace simply because alot of the cost of replacing an endless
    chain is the hastle, not the parts.
