Repercussions of smashing the baffles out of the exhaust?

Hi folks ... was just sitting at macca's (what was i thinking!), when the
another GSX750F turns up. He has a realy grunty sound coming out of this
thing, and i asked him what kind of exhaust hes running.

he says "I just stuck a broom stick down the pipe and smash the baffles
    out."

it did sound pretty dam good, but what kind of effects would it have on the
    bike - if any?

    Cheers

In the old days, when bikes were strangled, you could put on a much
more open exhaust, junk the air filter, jet the carb up to match,
    and get easy HP.

These days - as in the last 15 years or so - it's not that easy. The
bikes aren't that strangled, the black boxes more complex, ditto the
    whole air intake.

If you are lucky it won't sap much HP...

did it to my 01 r6 then went and got the carbys balanced incase it made it
run rich or anything, waste of cash, sounds heaps better but didnt affect
    anything re jetting etc YMMV

If you think balancing the carbies has something to do with jetting,
then I'm not surprised you thought there was no difference.

Yeah. To fix the jetting you'd have to change to heavier blinker fluid.

Thought the heavier blinker fluid was to help shafties countersteer?

sorry meant dyno'd to see if it was all runnin good or needed changes, I
tend to pay for this however as i dunt know much crap bout mechanicals,
    hence YMMV losl

Well, *duh*, of course ... but on a _chain drive_ it'll affect the
jettination. (To confustulate the jettificization on a shaftoidie
you'll have to upgradifiulate your oilinessitudeinality.)

A good barkeep and dry napkin might be able to help with that
countersteer problem you got there Clem..

Engine shutdown on a litre V Twin at 60kph can be very interesting.
Lucky it wasn't on the freeway..

That depends upon how effective your insulation is in keeping the
    halogen gas liquified.

Check your wiring for any bad insulation and you'll have a better idea :)

A sidecar doesn't countersteer at all.
