    Hi,

I have bought a honda XL 125 Varadero damaged repairable to fix as a
project. However I have just found out there is no Haynes manual for
the bike and the bikes are quite rare with salvage firms.

I need forks, fairing, headlight & front subframe.

Anyone got any idea how I can find out if any other honda bikes share
these same parts ? E.g. Shadow

Also how can I find part numbers out ?

    Cheers,

    Karl

  2. Superb. And with your amazing ignorance (see below), you thought this
    was a good idea?

Why didn't you buy a Franklin Mint gold-plated jigsaw? it would have
been cheaper, easier, and ultimately more rewarding.
And you didn't think of doing this *before* you bought the bike?
    Pondweed has more cerebral processes.
    Got a second mortgage?
    Let's see. A 125 Varadero is a bloody great mock-trail bike, and a 125
Shadow is a wannabe Harley for teenagers who've wanked so much it has
genuinely affected their eyesight. So, let's start with the basics. Does
a 125 cruiser have a trail bike fairing?
Go to a Honda dealers and ask. Expect a short answer. Shorter than mine.

Hurkhurk. And I thought *I* was being daft when I bought an accident
damaged BMW that "only" needed a fairing panel + paint and a footrest.

Cheapest way to fix it would be with a can of petrol and a match or two.

Chances are it isn't; it's more likely to be a bike that's fit for
ukrmc. Honda has been using the XL125/185/250 since at least the '70s
    for their small dirt bikes.
    Wrong bike.

Oops. Hope you got it dirt cheap. Honda will do a service manual for it. Not
cheap, but better than any Haynes is likely to be. Yes, I do have a bug in
    my ass about Haynes.

Big expense. These bikes are not likely to turn up in breakers as a result
of engine failure. Only as crash damaged or stolen/recovered. You may end
up buying parts from many breakers.

Keep hitting the breakers via something like partsearch, you may get lucky.
Get friendly with a Honda dealership. You will need to buy things from them
though, else they will ask you to bog off eventually.

You -may- be able to get the forks rebuilt, the subframe straightened and
the fairing repaired. The headlight may end up being bought new. This will
not be cheap. If the stanchions are creased as opposed to just bent,
replace them anyway. Any impact large enough to trash the forks may have
had a nasty effect on the chassis itself, get it checked. Again, creasing
is bad. The head bearings will likely be notched by any impact large enough
to bend the forks as well. Get the front wheel thoroughly checked out.

Try David Silver Spares. Helpful folk.

Sorry, should have added it would be far far cheaper to stand under a cold
    shower tearing tenners up.

You may get lucky, even if you do, it will cost -more- to repair than its
market value. Whilst I do this with shyteoldbikes for fun, I never go above
£500 total cost for the bike and repairs excluding tyres.

If you are lumped with it now, try just sorting the front end out, lobbing
on a 'streetfighter' headlamp kit from MPS, then ride it.

Oh I've got one of these! If I crash it you can buy it from me. From the
sound of it you need to hope someone crashes into the back of me...

Anyway bits for this bike have been poping up on ebay now and then so have a
    look.
