The seat of my 1976 motorcycle has a tear that I would like to patch. I
am thinking that if there is such a thing as black vinyl with adhesive
backing, it would be a good way to fix it. Does anybody have experience
with such a repair? Where would I find that material?

  3. A patch secured with any rubber adhesive will just move around when the
sun heats the vinyl up. You might have people snickering behind your
back and pointing to the patch that's stuck to your butt...

Maybe you could find a piece of black vinyl in an upholstery shop and
superglue it to the seat. I don't remember exactly where I got the
    rolls of
naugahyde I used to recover my seats, it may have been from a fabric
    and foam supplier in Burbank...

Does the CJ360 have the same seat as the CB360T?

www.denniskirk.com has an aftermarket seat cover for a CB360T P/N
    61-801 for $57.00...

You might can find vinyl at a hobby or sewing center. Use contact cement
(like that used by shoe repair shops) and follow the directions. I would
let it dry at least 48 hours though.
Or if you want to go the extra mile, buy more vinyl and a sewing awl.
Remove the seat cover and take it apart. Use the old seat cover as a
template for a new cover and stitch the new pieces together with the awl, or
if you have a heavy duty sewing machine, that will save time. While you're
at it, you might want to add some extra padding to the seat. If you get
proficient at this, you can start your own business. ;)

Thanks. The way to think of the CJ is that it is a cheapened version of
the CB and that they made a lot fewer of them. It has a simpler seat
that was cheaper in '76 but that is harder to find now ...

I think you are using the DK hardcopy catalog---I can't find that seat
cover online, although I found it right away in my hard copy.

  7. Im in Canada and I just tagged along with my wife to the local
Fabricland one day and in the back they had rolls of 54" "skidoo" vinyl
regular price $25 canadian for a meter, I got it on sale for $8 a meter.
It doesn't have any type of adhesive, but Im going to make cover for my
project bike and just pop rivet it to the existing leather which is fine
    around the edges.

I bring my seats to the little Korean guy that runs the leather/shoe
repair shop down the street from our store. He normally charges about
$30 or so for a recovering.

Yep, took the old Yamaha seat to "Joe's Do-it-all". $45 for marine grade
"sticky" vinyl. They did an excellent job, including new high density foam.

Two things can/will happen. The patch will flex and fall off.
The rest of the seat is rotten and some other part will tear.
I just get some material from the fabric shop and wrap it around the
whole thing. Attach it with a staple gun right into the plastic
part of the seat bottom. Not perfect, but works great.
