Repairable?

Whilst recommending a Bering jacket to BGN (I couldn't remember if the
jacket had a name) I noticed my one had been damaged in my recent armco
    interface.

The tear matches the blue/black/purple stripe on my chest and associated
    pain zones.

Is it repairable? The inner lining is also punctured. How to deal with
    the waterproof membrane?

You can't really repair the w/proof membrane if it's torn, so you'd be
    best off replacing it.

Problem is I can't really afford it ATM. It's served me well and I was
hoping it could be repaired, reasonably, to last until next winter.

Try gluing a patch of lightweight vinyl over the membrane with puncture
repair glue or even Evostik and hand sewing the outer where it got
torn. You could even blag BGN's old Akito, if he's up for it, and chop
out a chunk of the membrane from that to use as a patch. That might
work well enough to see you through the summer if it doesn't rain too
    hard. Pikey, but effective.

You could try repairing the waterproof membrane with a waterproof seam
tape just to bring the sides together. Sir needs
    http://www.gore-tex.co.uk/published/gfe_navnode/gb.prod.gtx.pac.seamtape.html
and lots of products at http://www.questoutfitters.com/miscelaneous2.htm

Alternatively wear your leathers and buy a nice Millets waterproof
    shell.

Until I could buy another jacket, I used to put a wateproof overjacket
on over my leaky bike jacket. Those can be had quite cheap, army
    surpless shops are one souce.

I repaired a pair of waterproof leggings with gaffer tape when the seam
went in the crotch. They lasted six months before they went again. I
consigned them to the bin after that and am now using my leaky Richas
    again.

  8. evostik will ruck up the fabric , better to use clear silicone , press it
flat with an iron(not plugged in) until it dries then stitch it and spray
    with waterproofer

Aye. I bought a Bering overjacket for that purpose but I wear mine
    underneath ;)

Well, you can't look too new and shiny. Tis not the way of the rat.

Why not go the whole hog and use a warm iron and a heat sensitive glue?

    Tent sealer stuff.

  12. the water proof linings are usually very sensitive to heat , the heat
required to melt most hot glues is way above the melt limit of the lining ,
heat quite often ruins waterproof coatings on cloths as well

Not the one I was thinking of, that is little more than hand hot.

    I didn't know that.

So drying out my 2nd string HG jacket in front of the fire might not be
    A Good Thing then?

There are companies (a single one in the whole of Sweden
AFAIK) that do guaranteed, good-as-new, repairs to
Gore-Tex clothing. There is nothing magical about it, they
"just" have to possess the know how and the specialised
equipment needed. Seems strange to me if there is none
in the UK. Might ask at a big dealer (or Bering) where they
    send repairs/guarantee work/special fit work.

OTOH, the cost of extensive repairs might make the
purchase of a new jacket the better option?

I'm a bit strapped for cash ATM so would prefer a cheaper option than
    replacement.

The local clothing repair and alteration place (a one woman band) said
she can do the ripped seams; the gouge out of the front needs a patch and
the membrane can be glue patched if I supply some material.

Following Lozzo's suggestion I asked BGN; who is kindly supplying
material from his knackered Akito when he next hobbles to the PO.

The repair bill? £15 and a few beers for BGN.

Get it stitched and wear a waterproof jacket over the top until you can
    afford its replacement.
