Repainting clocks

The CB550 rebuild continues. My question now is what to do with the
clocks. Both could do with repainting and, anyway, David Silver has a
tachometer but no speedometer. The speedometer has a dent so my plan
is to fill the dent and repaint the black bits of both. Is there
anything wrong with my plan and, if not, how should I go about it?

The CB550 has exactly the same size clocks as the CB750 - same units,
in fact, except the graduations on the dials are different. There are
people on Ebay who now sell replacement dial faces: self-adhesive
stick-on units which (apparently) are very high quality. One of the
classic rags recently ran a piece on refurbishing old Jap clocks,
using them. Might have been the VJMC mag: I can't remember.

Might be worth checking out, anyway. Get an old CB750 speedo, and
convert it. And refurbish the tacho at the same time.

The real problem with these clocks is opening the buggers up in the
first place: that metal sealing ring is rolled on with a special tool,
and is easily ruined by attempts to remove it, though I have seen some
    very nice repair jobs done.

I had a MPH (MPH/kph) dial made for the Tart by someone in London.
Even put a Voxan logo on it like the original. I'm sure they could
redial a CB750 clock to 550 working from the old dial. About 40 quid
    though IIRC.

I was hoping to avoid opening the things. They work, although the red
line is a bit faded. Of course, by the time I've done everything else,
I might decide I want nice sparkly clocks and redo them.

Now that's a useful website and company to bookmark.

I don't think £40 is a lot of money for a refurbed clock, actually.
Sounds like a bargain to me.

But are the 'before' and 'after' pix on the 'Our Services' section
    identical???

Hmm sweet, I shall be needing a new tacho dial for the RS when it's
    finished!

That was only for a new dial on a working speedo though.

The after has an inner kph ring.
