I think you might find that its a bit of a step on from 'removing a front
wheel'. If its been properly fitted then the original wires will have been
cut right back and the alarm spliced in with wires that are all the same
    colour.

  3. Get a man in. Prefereably one of those slightly dodgy garages
that'll do it cash in hand.

And then buy a large lock.

it appears to have been fitted very well, unfortunately.
well, this is what I thought.
yeah, sure - I used to be an electronics geek, subscribed to EE,
burning my own circuit boards etc. I even had a design for a simple
IC-based game I made published in Practical Electronics. I don't
    currently /own/ a multimeter, though.
well, I'm a member of the RAC (just to annoy Bear, obviously), but
won't they just recover it to my home or a dealership?

Perhaps Simian is right and I just need a new battery in the fob. But
on the other hand, if I decide to race the 7R, I'll definitely want to
    remove the alarm.

yeah, but although my current problem is just with not being able to
use the thing as a road bike, if I decide to race it[1] then I'll
    *need* to remove the alarm.

I'm actually a lot happier with wiring than mechanics.

[1] though TBH, I think using the RGV250 for this is more likely.

the bike is really only ever parked in my locked garage or in the
    secure underground car-park at work.

Just rip out the wiring loom then, run a total loss system you can then
ditch the alternator and assorted gubbins.
