My wife had a datatool alarm fitted on her ER5 when she bought it, but what
with dead batteries and intermittent fobs, we decided to get shot of it.

Can I just simply cut off the cable leading into the alarm unit after
switching it into service mode, or is there more work involved?

    Cheers,
    Can

There's quite a lot more work, as you might guess.

What you need to do is to expose the alarm unit and trace all the
wires from it, to where they are spliced into the loom - in at least
three places. Chop 'em out and make good the splice-outs and you're
away. Shouldn't take more than an hour to do a neat job with a
    soldering iron.

    Cheers Steve,

I removed it today, Pip's estiamte of an hour was pretty accurate too (once
I removed all the panels, anyway)!
