Parents can be such fucking traitors. I'm forever bollocking my
youngest daughter for being a total cow to her boyfriend, who is a
    decent lad.

A friend of mine is a committed veggie (no leather shoes, belts, car
seats etc) and that is the reason that both he and his wife turned.
Apparently, they had been arguing one night about who was going to cut
up the chicken breasts and just decided that they wouldn't eat meat
again. Feeding their cat was, though, one thing they couldn't escape
    from.

He became an almost insufferable veggie. We used to travel on business
together and it was a hell of a job finding somewhere to eat where he
could get a veggie meal in many European cities. I think he spent a
    week in Portugal eating omelettes.

Once, we had an excursion to Aveiro when we had an afternoon spare
before flying home. A guy in the town was shaking a tin, collecting
for charity so I dropped my spare change in. He didn't. He explained
that he didn't give any money in case the guy was collecting for a
cancer charity and he didn't give to cancer charities as cancer
research used animals for testing and it was against his veggie
principles. When I asked him if he would refuse treatment for any of
his kids if they suffered from cancer I could almost see his skull
pulsating as he dealt with the dilemma.

His answer, eventually, was "that's different".

That's one view. However I don't think it that helpful.

More likely perhaps is that they were indoctrinated as
children and can't now help it.

Hopefully, one day soon such indoctrination will
be regarded as child abuse, however at the
present time the majority of the population
(in say 'the west') are indoctrinated and
so such abuse is accepted since the
requirement to carry out such indoctrination
it is a consequence the Skyfairyist
    virus that infects their brains.

It is no different in principle from female genital
mutilation or the need to keep female children
out of school or ........... It is something that
there is no logical explanation for and yet
millions of people do it anyway.

Assuming that they are simply stupid is not
going to help to stop the abuse. Religous leaders
who live a life of luxury do not strike me as being
    particularly stupid.

Sorry for the uncomprimising response, but
    I think it important:)

I was truely shocked to learn recently that
Church of England Bishops get a seat in the
House of Lords!!!!!!!! I am not 100% that it is true
but it was on TV - so it must be:)

My brother and his rampant veggie wife kept their two cats on a
meat-free diet, poor sods. I'm fairly sure they supplemented their
diets from the garden, and they weren't underweight (far from it, one
of them was huge). They came to us when bro moved to the US for 3
years, and looked mightily relieved when we gave them proper food.

    I can remember listening to a bird-sanctury owner who'd received a
hefty donation with the proviso that none of it was spent on food for
the owls, just the seed-eating birds.

No. Straight bat rather, given MJC has appeared to have completely
    missed my point . [1]

[1] which was another annecdote concerning the strange ways some
vegetarians have of dealing with the needs of carnivorous creatures.

  14. When Linda McCartney started her food line[1] she was in based in Hythe
in Kent and went to local commercial food producers to sub to.

She personally tasted and selected what food would have her name on.
After rejecting most of the samples, one producer came out on top and
after Linda tasting the offered products placed the contract with them.

Apparently after having all of its samples rejected this producer added
pork fat the pies to give them taste.

No one knew for years until one worker sold his story to the Sun.

Big storm and all production went to a McCartney run outfit.

[1] This is a repeat of a topic which ended up confirmed, before
anecdotal accusations are made and accusers start looking foolish :)

Remember Tamara, the very short-lived stats programmer we had in
Basel? Raving veggie, eco-warrior (clearly didn't believe in
deodorant, for example) and all-round incompetent. She started working
on clinical trials analysis on the proviso that she'd only work on
'good' drugs, for cancer and the like. She lectured me one day on the
evils of using anti-inflammatories for joint pain, and was of the
strongly-held opinion that if the body was in pain, it should be
    allowed to heal itself.

Twat. She was kicked out after three months, given that in that time
she'd shown herself incapable of even learning the difference between
the PROC and DATA statements. Her abortive coding attenpts frequently
    included stuff like PROC DATA=fred;
