Before we were married, we were playing croquet with some friends next
door to my parent's then home.

And I play rather, um, unprincipled croquet, and took no prisoners with
her (she was on the opposing side, natch). And she burst into tears,
lobbed her croquet mallet over a hedge like it was a caber, and stomped
off to cry on my mother's shoulder, and *she* gave me a bollocking for
"being mean".

Graduated in 1980, so it wasn't then, 1981 I was at law college, so it
wasn't then. So it must have been the year after. 27 years. Right. On
September 6th. Or 5th. Yes, 5th, because the 6th is The Daughter's
birthday.
