Reims Campsite

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by toad_oftoadhall, Jul 24, 2006.

  1. Anyone recommend a campsite with nearby cafe/pizza place v. near the
    A26/A4 around Reims/Chalons-en-Champagne. (Maybe off the N51/D3?)

Does Chalons-en-Champagne have a municipal site? Wossit like?

    I'm sick of F1 hotels.

Dunno, but I'd be amazed if there wasn't one - evry French town seems
    to have one.
Stay somewhere decent then, you pikie.

    Pikey!
I've always called in at local hotels [1] only to find they charge around
the ?25 mark, and that includes a garage for the bike
[1] up and down the length of France

  4. Too right, but for the first night of a trip, when I'm gonna arrive in
the middle of the night and leave first thing in the morning and I
don't want to stray far from the payage I find F1 hotels are perfect.

    YMMV.

Rather you than me, going through the hassle of pitching a tent in the
middle of the night, then having the further hassle of packing it all back
    in the morning :)

Aye, they're one that I look out for, but the one right in the middle
of Annecy old town is a perennial favourite regardless of which chain
    it's part of.

Stayed there again on the way to xmas ski trip. As I said, it's been a
favourite staging post of ours for years, giving the chance for a very
civilised evening and an early-ish start (7am) gets you to the ski
station of your choice before any of the traffic and in time for
breakfast before first lift of the day.

Try Premire Classe, same chain as Camponile. Around 30-35 euros, bog and
    shower included.

I find the Etap chain OK for overnight stops. Not much more than an F1
but en-suite. Often a reasonable resturant within walking distance.

BTW on no account use the municipal camp site at Epernay. It is right
on the main railway line and huge freight trains thunder past all night
    at about half hour intervals.

And pretty much indistiguishable from F1. Pre-fabbed plastic rooms, no
staff visible, credit card access only, etc. Perfectly good for what
they are. Oh, and they're much cheaper than that. Normally the same
    price as F1.

F1 do not have shower/toilet in rooms
Nope, we stayed at staffed ones
    Depends where they are.

Good point. Been a while since I used F1 and now I remember why.
Well that's not always the case. Maybe the newer ones have moved more
towards the F1 style of working, or maybe it's only of, like me, you
turn up around midnight on a Friday night and leave at seven the next
    morning.
Well duh! One I stayed in at Grenoble earlier this year was around
    18-20 Eu, IIRC.

    That will be a *ding*

    breakfast wasn't bad for 4.50 euros :)
Not as cheap ad Geant though, 1.50 :)
You sure it was not a F1 ? I have the "little book" here and it shows the
cheapest Grenoble one (Nord) as 29 Euros

Wiv the en-suite shower and all? Yes, I'm sure.
Whatever. Was directly visible from the motorway on the way round to
the road out towards Bourge-en Oisans, if you really want to know.
