Wondered about bothering to get a V5 for the donor bike Sl1225 I
bought recently. The number is out there on the DVLA system, so it
    should be straightforward.

The £25 charge was putting me off, and I was thinking about just
breaking it. The CG125 engine[1] in it is worth a bit, as it's a sweet
runner. Anyway, I dug out the plate to remind me of the number, and
blinked. It's a suffix 'M' plate and a very short number.

So I trawled a few cherished number sites and found a match for the
three-letter prefix, but ending 25S instead of 12M, as mine does,
    asking price £1700.

Blimey. I'll get the V5 now, and try and flog the plate, though I
*think* you need a valid MoT on the donor vehicle[1]. Can anyone
    confirm?

one of my other Honda 125s.

    From kjregistrations.com:

Does the Donor vehicle need to be in existence?
Most definitely the donor vehicle has to be in existence and:-
    a) Have a current MOT and road tax
    or
    b) MOT expired but still have current road tax
    or
    c) MOT expired and road tax expired but the road tax expired within
    the last six months.
From 1 May 2002 donor vehicles which are less than 3 years old (or
less than 1 year old in the case of a HGV) will no longer have to have
road tax in order to participate in the transfer arrangements. From
that date registration numbers can be transferred from vehicles without
road tax which have not yet reached MOT testable age, provided all
other requirements of the number transfer facility are met.
Recipient vehicles will still need current road tax in order to
    participate.

Ta. That complicates matters a bit as the bike is definitely in 'field
bike' trim. However, I reckon I could get a daytime MoT without too
much effort. Depends what I'm offered for the plate, really.

The reason it's so high is the last three characters look like three
numbers and no matter how you squint 12M doesn't.

I'd be surprised if it's worth the bother especially if it's longer than
12 months since the Tax expired.

I flogged a reg number some years ago, during a time of dire financial
need, to one of these reg number companies, and although the money I
received was about half of what they would likely sell it on for, they
did all the donkeywork and it was an effortless process for me.

Also, it is a normal possibility for a vehicle to be inspected prior to
the rubber stamp (just in case of stolen stuff being recycled I
suppose), but the Ministry never did bother, probably because it had
been registered to me for yonks.

  8. **** me, that's what I call a trailie.
yeah, but how hard is that on a SO-125? if you've got someone prepared to
wast^H^H^H^H spend gettign on for 2K, you could justify spending 500 notes
on getting it tested, if that was what it took.

watch out for the reg-plate-sellers comission and the £80 transfer fee. The
one I sould for a ticket price of £575 a few years back netted me £380 IIRC,
which was still a handy contribution.
