As people are mainly caught speeding by camera systems now - how many have
    identity masking systems fitted?

Not that I expect many answers - as that may give the game away.

As the owner of an ER5 and an XT600E speed is not much of a worry to me. But
if it were - by use of a tiny bit of sticky black tape I could turn an F
into an E, or some such. This wheeze would be very easy to reverse if I was
to be stopped by real policemen.

It is of slight relevance to me as I may buy a bike with something
approaching 90BHP next Easter. I suspect that I may then find myself
becoming of interest to the cameras.

It also leave you open to a charge of perverting the course of justice,
which can see you ending up with an awful lot more than 3 points and a £60
    fine.

Now if on the other hand your plate was smashed and a significant portion
was missing, you can claim the "Some bastard must have done that whilst it
    was parked" defence.

I seem to recall one of the regulars of this parish also employing the
"never clean my plate, ever, until it is completely illegible" technique,
which led to being pulled over and forced to clean it by hand...

Eatmorepies emerged from their own little world to say
Although, it is very likely that a police officer stopping you has recorded
your indiscretion on his video camera. An uplink to the PNC will show that
your moody plate does not match the vehicle.....

Personally, I'll continue to speed where I think appropriate and take the
occasional "3 points & £60" penalty when it inevitably happens.

The fine for not having a number plate at all or having one that is
unreadable through being too dirty is minimal and doesn't carry points
IIRC. That seems to be the better route to go.

I used to do the moody plate thing before ANPR equipment and computer
links to DVLA were installed into police cars. I wouldn't risk it
    nowadays.

    An officious policeman one assumes.

    wisdom:
    BTDTGTTS.

I only ever got asked to clean it by hand. Usually the best thing to
clean it with was WD-40 thus exacerbating the problem for later on :)

The absolute worst thing that happened to me was getting a 30 quid non-
endorsable fine for riding round with a bag on my plate.

You're obviously not using either properly. Even the poxy ER-5 will
quite happily exceed 100mph in 3rd gear without issue.

Also, broken registration plates are better than false ones.

If I ever needed to get from one end of the country to the other, in a
hurry, I'd simply snap the plate off.

    It's easier for a start.

  10. I also seem to recall said member having his plate cleaned for him by
some other regulars on a French Run, as a "present".
