It's official. Reed's got a reliable running motorcycle again.

Last Thursday Reed pulled out of my garage on his new ride, a '98 EX500
with only 4200 miles. I spoke to him yesterday, and he's enjoying the
    bike so far.

Could these be his first steps towards a kinder, gentler Reed?

In any case, I've got room in the garage for my ZX-10R now. Should be
here in January, or so I'm told.

  6. Poor bastard had some unpaid parking tickets and discovered the true
purpose of title to one's property. Specifically so that government
can seize said asset whole regardless of actual monies owed.

  7. You're shitting me. They seized a $10000 bike over a lien that couldn't
have been more than a few hundred dollars? Christ.

  8. Read the fine print... that's how the system of titles works. The
bank/government can claim posession of your $300,000 asset for a
liability of $800 and not offer you a penny of the difference.

Ever wonder why you NEED a title to your car or home, yet can posess a
multi-million dollar work of art with no documentation whatsoever?

<Hint: He who holds claim to another's shelter or transport is king>

  9. Oakland sends out the tow trucks if you've got 5 or more unpaid tickets and
the registration is expired. I suspect that's what got Reed, too, since the
reg on the BMW was past due.

The great part of having that happen is that you a) have to pay the reg and
the tickets b) have to pay the city a fee to get a release for the vehicle and
    c) have to pay the towing/impound fees. Usually all in one day. Don't ask
    how I know.

It seems like that bike woulda been worth bailing out, doncha think?
I mean would you say soemthing like " Oh, my bike got towed for 540.00 worth
of parkers, I guess I will get something new to replace it."
I find that hard to believe, you know.

Dude, I am simultaneously amazed at the breadth of your knowledge and
aghast at the shit I learn from it. For clarification, where would one
find this fine print? I do not see it stated on any of my titles.

The BMW was towed and sold before the fines could be paid. Reed
indicated that it was shady, ie: sold before the tow shop was legally
    entitled to do so.

The SR500 is still around, but never fit the bill of being reliable. I
think he's going to put it for sale on Craigslist.

The Buell... MUNI happened to it.

Ugh. Don't get me started... The S was towed by the CHP after I forgot
    to
pay my registration. I got quite ill the next day, and was bed-ridden
    for
a couple weeks. Just as I started to get better, my ex-girlfriend was
evicted and then ended up in the hospital. By the time I had the money
together to pay the fines and had gotten through the DMV, a month had
passed. I paid all my fines and showed up at the tow yard only to be
    told
my bike had been sold a couple days ago. The way that they went about
selling it was almost certainly not within the law, but I don't
    currently
have the ability to pursue my legal options as throughly as I might
    like.
I'm talking with a few others who have had the same trouble with the
    same
company, and are working on a lawsuit, but I can't do it myself right
    now.

Actually, I just did all this in order to continue to serve my primary
function of being an example to others. Pay your registration. I
    screwed
    up.

All in all, I'm just glad to have some form of bike again, even if I
    still
hate the damn SR500. Anyone want to trade?

    Reed.

So something your friend failed to realize is that there's now a near
$1000 collection on his credit for this. Ask me how *I* Know...

The second time it happened they towed my (now) wife's pile of crap 88
ford escort. I was happy to have it gone. I called the tow yard, who
all they wanted was to settle up their tow fees and storage, which was
about 150. but they couldn't release the car to me unless I had a
form from the RWC police and got the reg up to date and got insurance
on the heap that barely ran as it was. (Nearly $1000!) So I called
up one of those donation charities, who the tow company was happy to
release the car to, paid the 150 tow and store, and got a nice write
off on the value of the car AND tow!

I got the joy of not having this shit on my credit report, Donating to
a worthy charity (pets in need), a tax write off and giving the DMV
and city of RWC a big FU for towing our car.

Here in El Cajon, he'd have to have been using the car to solicit a
prostitute or a drug buy to have that happen. The 5th Amendment is
    being shredded right and left.
