Time to service the Husky[1], which has a reusable air filter
element. Which basically means I need both some cleaner and some
filter oil - anybody got any recommendations as to what's good and
    what isn't?

  2. 10/40 engine oil (clean!) is fine.

Paraffin/white spirit to clean it, followed by warm soapy water. Proper
foam filter oil to oil it (Silkolene etc). It's mega sticky so doesn't
drip out leaving a pool in the bottom of the airbox like engine/gear
oil do. It's also much better at keeping water out, should you take the
    bike mud-plugging.

K+N cleaner kits. <GBP10 from Halfrauds. Looks like it will last for ages.

I wouldn't use K&N filter oil on foam filters. It's designed for a
single thin layer of material, not a thick lump of foam.
