Christmas approaches and I need to tell the family what I would actually
like to avoid restocking the sock drawer.

I want an airbrush kit that is up to a range of jobs. A sidepanel or helmet
up to a tank or fairing panels. I'm not thinking about artistic work, just
one or two colour panels. Would also be quite handy if it could stretch to
something like a car wing or bumper. It probably needs to be something with
    a small compressor.

I have no idea where to start looking or what range of kit would suit. I did
have a small conventional spray gun which could handel car body panels and
bike tanks but the level of overspray is a problem around the garage. I'm
happy to get the job done more slowly for less mess.

I'm thinking a very fine atomisation may also cut down on the orangepeel
effect and make blending in scratch repairs a bit easier?

Well, you asked for airbrushes, which is what you see there.

Perhaps what sir's looking for is a small spray gun, such as:

    http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=000510210&r=2013&g=103

    or

    http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=000511100&r=2013&g=103

for the gun, or perhaps something like:

    http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=000112020&r=2007&g=102

    for a gun/compressor combo.

I stated some clear requirements and hope for a reply from someone who
actually has practical experience of some actual kit which fits the bill. As
I said I've had a small conventional spray gun and the level of application
is quite heavy/broad and creates a lot of peripheral contamination.

    So you did.

Well, I use one of these:

    http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=000511100&r=2013&g=103

for small panel work. It's too small for a decent sized panel, but then the
panels on a Land Rover aren't small.

For detail work, I'd use a conventional airbrush, but this:

    http://www.axminster.co.uk/default.asp?part=AB115

would probably fit your needs better if you want a single gun.

    Better?
