Recommendation for Valkyrie Tuner

    Hey Bill,

I'm sure I did have an owner's manual, at one time, but probably
haven't seen it since the move.

Basic maintenance? I've changed the oil twice, eyefucked the coolant
reservoir (someone started a rumor that they crack easily), checked the
final drive lube, looked at the brake fluid, and kept an eye on the
water level in the battery. I also start the bike and run it around
the block until it warms up and gets "smooth" every two or three weeks
when I can't ride it weekly. Do you need a manual to tell you to do
    these things?

Is there some other scheduled maintenance noted in YOUR Valkyrie
manual, that should have been performed BEFORE 4500 miles, the lack of
which is likely to have brought on this condition? If not, then my
problems are not the result of misplaced manuals.

"Amateur tinkering" isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you're all
thumbs, mechanically challenged, or the type that takes things apart
without planning on how to get them back together. Many yuppie bikers
I know have a pet garage and don't even change their own fork oil, and
probably own more biker fashion items than torque wrenches. If pouring
something into the gas tank doesn't fix it, they call in the pros.

Still, I'm all ears for anyone's sincere recommendation of a local
    shop.

Nah.. but then again.. I'm not casting around on a newsgroup trying to find
out how to remove the seat and gas tank on my motorcycle..
Sorry Bud, I don't own a Valkyrie and don't need a Manual for one.. I do
have the Owner's Manual for my motorcycle, though.. Bike and book is almost
ten years old.. The bike has almost 65,000 miles on it.. runs good and just
had the valves adjusted for the first time, this month..

that should have been performed BEFORE 4500 miles, the lack of
I have no idea what is causing the problems with your motorcycle.. Neither
does anyone else until they've given it a look over..
That is an easy one.. Grapevine Kawasaki in Grapevine might be a good
starting place.. 817/481-1500.. Shop supervisor is a nice guy named Dean..
He knows every nut and bolt on that Valkyrie.. He's got two of the best
metric wrenches in the metroplex in his shop.. Good luck to you..

Hell, he only has 4,500 miles on it. I assume he only used it once.

‘‘Bud’’ submits an update: (in part)
I went to the VRCC site and read about removing the tank, sounds pretty
simple. But the first instruction was "remove the seat". I looked at my
seat and didn't see any bolts or fasteners. What's the trick? It's
    original equipment.

    (louie)

thanks for the update on your situation....   the seat comes off by
unlocking the key lock with your ignition key. That lock is located on
the left side right below the fuel/reserve petcock.
    ..louie~

When I first got mine, and was looking up under stuff, I noticed that
    ''key hole''.
I thought it was lockable place for the tool kit, and manual. Found out
later, how easy to get the seat off, I love it. It reminds me of how
    Hondas use to be.
The battery is right there, and easy to get to.
Boy, Bud, hasnt rode that Valky much.
    (chuckle)
Bud, needs to take it to an authorized honda mechanic. Since he hasnt
rode it much, git' er' over there, git' er' checked out, and
afterwards, Ride that big V. It needs some milage on it. <g>

What I meant was and I guess what I should have said was: "No way in
hell has that bike jumped time."

    Gary Walker agrees;
    10-4....

If it did, it would hobble around.
Bud, would have been in trouble out there on 635, with half an engine
    running. <g>

    Jerry;
I initially asked for a recommendation for a good Valkyrie tuner. So far
there doesn't seem to be a consensus on one of those.

I dont understand why you dont take it to a Honda Store, there has got
to be several in your neck of the woods, surely!
That ''flat-six'' big ole engine, needs to be worked on by an authorized
    honda Mechanic, IMO.

Say Bud, I betcha your Honda manual is still in its proper place, and
that is under the seat. Also that is where the battery and tool kit,
    both are.
if you didnt know how to get the seat off, by using the key, you just
might not have ever seen the manual. HTH bjk~

    Bud,

Does the exhaust warm up after riding a while? (i.e. at RPM's above idle?)
Without doing a diagnostic - as suggested by others - it's really hard to
give an exact answer - but you can break down back to the basics and
    troubleshoot.

You need basically two things... fuel and spark. If the exhaust warms up
at RPM's above idle, I'd suspect fuel - maybe a clogged fuel inlet to a
carb - or a clogged idle jet. It doesn't take much at all to clog an idle
jet. Regardless of the Berymans / Seafoam / or whatever product you may
use to loosen up the gunk in the tank/fuel delivery circuit.

Spark. This would be across the RPM range (most likely) - It could be as
simple as changing plugs, wires, or a faulty coil or maybe an ignition
    circuit (TCI/CPI/etc..).

G'Luck - And it may be a good idea to give the shop that Bill suggested a
call if it's not something pretty simple.

I'll tell ya' one thing, the plugs on theValky, are the easiest to get
to, than any Bike I've ever owned.

When I first got my Valk I thought I had a dead battery and a loose seat!
I had to google for a newsgroup for help. Got a bunch of smartasses.
