Recommendation for Personal-Injury Attorney

Can anyone recommend a known-good attorney in Dallas?

I was hit around 11 pm on Friday, while riding my GL1500 eastbound on
I-635 near Miller Rd. I was unconscious until about 1:30 am, when I
woke up in Presbyerian ER. According to the police officer who was
present when I came to, I was hit from behind by a car that went out
of control while racing another car. The driver had no license or
insurance, but stated that the owner of the car had insurance. The
driver was issued a citation and allowed to leave.

That's about all I know - at this point I can sit up but can't walk to
the bathroom, and have no idea what happened to my bike. I guess it's
probably impounded in Dallas. I was told by the ER doctor that I need
to see an ortho guy about my shoulder fractures, but don't know how
I'm going to do that until I get a little better and can dress/walk.
I feel lucky to be alive - they said they pulled me from beneath the
car, but I literally can't remember anything between riding down the
road and waking up in ER.

I have no idea what to do next, who to file a claim with, etc, and
really feel like I need some help and direction. It's one thing to
imagine all you'd do in this situation, but when you're all smashed up
you're just glad to have a laptop, a phone, and someone to bring you
food, water, and an empty bedpan.

    thanks,

Sucks that you got hit. Just the prime example to why motorcyclists
need to be lane splitting instead of sitting in traffic. I know first
hand that this stretch of 635 is more than dangerous for getting hit
    on a motorcycle.

Yes, I called my insurance company and reported the accident, but they
(Progressive) don't seem very interested in getting involved. This
could be because I have liability but not collision, so they don't
feel financial responsibility where another party is clearly at fault.

I have poked around and found two lawyers. Does anyone know anything
about either, or know how to research client satisfaction online?

Unfortunately, without any fear of financial responsibility
(aka liability only coverage), Progressive will have no
    incentive to participate/compensate in/you.

Additionally, although your damages/injuries seem some-
what extensive(they always do when they're yours), you
will most likely not find a PI attorney willing to work for
    you without a front-end retainer.

Based on your previous description(s), you have proper-
ty damage and some injury, albeit recoverable. Your re-
covery damages are mostly fixed in nature. Add to that,
the ability in nailing down the vehicle owner/driver, and
you've got a situation that could extend months/years.

Not something a law shark wants to undertake for a
    quick turnaround.

I'm assuming that along with your progressive liability
coverage, you would not have UIM coverage? I kinda'
think that UIM's unavailable with liability only, but you
might check on it. If you do have U/UIM, there's your
    savior.

I can second what lobo said about bikelawyer - It's Bill Ley's office in
Austin and he has associates in the DFW area. If you call his Austin
office and let them know where you area they'll give you the name and
number then transfer your call up to the guy's office which is on 635 just
west of the Galleria. I'll try to dig up the guy's name and number. He
handled a case for me last Dec and it went smooth as silk.

Heal well dude. It takes time and patience but keep on going one day at a
    time. You'll make it back.

The guy associated with Bill Ley is David A. Cole. His number is in the
phonebook. He did right by me last year.

The resolution of a lawsuit through an alternative procedure is
greatly advised to avoid the formal case hearings in a court trial.
However, there some instances wherein the plaintiff and the defendant
failed to resolve their arguments outside the court. This is whether
the plaintiff does not accept the offer or the defendant did not
propose a just settlement package. Thus, they resulted to battling it
out in court trials. Trial Procedure A personal injury trial is quite
similar in any other criminal court case in which witnesses and
    evidences play an important role.
