I'm been thinking about getting onto a bike for a while, my little fantasy
:) .... living in Dorset there are some great roads and nice places to ride
to and through and though bollocks to being stuck in a a car in traffic. I
really do feel like going for it and was after a recommendation for a
training school in Dorset. I'm near a palce called Ferndown but can easily
travel further for a good school. (to add: I'm also based in London so I
could possibly do the training there if theres a good school)

I have odnea little research so lets see if I have got this right ?

If my car license has a entitle of category A I don;t need to apply for a
    ammended licese ?

    Complete a CBT around £100

Complete the motorcycle theory and hazard perception test (£?) Anyone
recommend and books or software for this ?

Then I have to complete a practical test on a size bike that I want to ride.
And then I'm road legal and get get motorycling!

Is that all right ? (slap me in the head and tell me otherwise :) )

Also I know absolutely nothing about motorbikes what the heck am I looking
for in my first bike. I can tell you a bit about my needs which may help.
I'm getting it mainly for pleasure (always wanted to ride) and for traveling
down the motorway to London roughly 100 miles from Ferndown to London.
Riding for fun down here in Dorset. Trying to attract sexy women ? Keeping
flies out of my teeth, being able to fart and no kids smash my windows
openfor oxygen, something confy I don't want a stiff bum (stiff and bum hmmm
not quite sure I should use those two words together), something quote nice
looking (sporty\strong) and not weight a ton, ease of use and realisbility,
forgiving if I do something stupid ... you get the basic idea.

Also any advice on headgear and clothing. I see a lot of bikers down here in
Dorset wearing jeans and a leather jacket, correct me if I'm wrong but if
they come off how well will jeans hold up or will they rip off along with
your skin, my skin is something I want to keep, but I'm not sure leather
troussers is my thing, but I can adapt if it means its safer.

Any other advice on what I should take into account on things I'll need to
stump up for like chains ? security gizmos and erm... whatever else is
    needed.

Thank you ladies and gentle and I lookforward to some help.)

    Good man.
Correct if you have provisional Cat A.
Yes, yes, go to the DSA site.
It's called direct access, if you'r eover 21 you can take your test on a
motorcycle with 35Kw or mor eoutput, then you can ride any size bike.
Your instructors wil lgo through this with you.

You'll want to avoid a cruiser then - the sitting position on them can
make farting a bit tricky. Probably be best with something a bit
'sporty' that you ride head down and arse up.

    Just a suggestion mind.

Stablized banged the rocks together and they said :
There's someone who posts a couple of times a year who's fantasy is to
get under a bike. Preferably one with a fat rear tyre. You may want to
    meet him :)

Don't feel like it. DO it.

I had a little toy bike when I was 18, gave up for many years, decided
to go for it, did and have never regretted it since, even though I
spent 4.5 years willing my leg not to fall off after an accident.
Nope. You have to either ride a 125 for so many years first, OR take
something called a DAS : Direct Access Something-or-other.

Which then gives you a full bike license.

You can get 4 day courses that will take you through the CBT, test,
    schooling and the DAS test.
SV650, ER500, Hornet 600, something like that. Not too stupid at first,
fun enough you'll love the thing, cheap enough to run.

Keep it for 6 months / a year, during which try out various flavours of
bikes to see what style you like, and then chop it in for a bigger bike.
