Got news for you, roos run on grass.

I pay about $1.30 for premium 98 octane (which isn't measured as
octane is measured in the US)

Of course this is still way too cheap, given the oil situation. As
many "Gas should never be more than $2/gal" Americans are going to
    find out.

Well, Grump, I wish you much joy of the new bike.

I have to admit that I am somewhat surprised at your desire for
noticeably more than 2 hours at a go.

I know that everyone is different, but, I found that two hour spells of
riding for a 1100 kms day trip, was adequate when I had my K100RS, but
the same trip, ridden in chunks of just over one hour, on the Hornet,
    was equally comfortable.

This wasn't a plan, but was forced upon me by the limited fuel range of
the Hornet. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I still felt good
after 1100 kms on an unfaired bike.

Depends I suppose on your traveling requirement.

I tend towards long distance commuting rather than touring as such.
So I want to get where I'm going, and don't want to stop often.

If I have the luxury of stopping and looking about then good oh, but
mostly I want to do 2 hours minimum, preferably 3.

The Norge is easily good for 400km stages and I find no need to stop
till I do the first 400 as the bike's comfortable for that amount of time.

I stop more often after that, as otherwise it's hard to keep focused
    as fatigue creeps up.

    Thanks,
I like to try for up to 3 hours between rests on long hauls. (2-up)
I won't risk riding with a pillion between dusk & dawn unless I'm on a busy
coastal highway where there is little chance of animal strike.
As a result I find stopping too often severely limits my daily range,
    particularly in winter.
Even in Summer, having to regularly strip & re-don hot protective apparel,
helmets & gloves too often gets to be a drag.
Took the "better half" with me this morning for the exchange so she had a
taste of the K on the 100K trip back home but as her back-rest (top-box) is
still on order & very heavy holiday traffic she wasn't that impressed but
admitted the bumps & jarring were now absent.
    Regards,
    G.

$20.000 of fuel still gets you a long way. Well sort of at todays
prices, but at tomorrows - who fuckin knows

Rather pay too much for a bike here than go to USA>. america would be
better if it didnt have Americans.

The VFR was good for riding all day just stopping for fuel..
only had a sheepskin seatcover for comfort.
admit the first few times the missus fell asleep on the back was
un-nerving, but once your used to it, it was fine.

  10. You posted implying we were all thick for paying too much for our
motorcycles. When you were told that's what they cost here, you posted
telling us to buy them in the good ol' US of A. When it was pointed out
to you that doing that would involve more time and expense than buying
them here, you posted asking: "how come?" When it was explained to you,
you posted telling us we'd be better off riding kangaroos.

I dunno for sure who's thick around here, mate, but I'm pretty certain
    it isn't us.

    I don't think so.
Good for you. I am happy for you.
I'd suggest that most of the people who hate the USA are those people
who's lives have been fucked over by the actions of the US government
    over the last 100 years.

People who have been jailed and tortured by military dictatorships set
up, sponsored and supported by the US, probably have some kind of
justification for hating the USA. The ones that got killed probably
don't care too much, but their relatives might be a wee bit pissed off
    at the US too.
Well, I guess we have to agree to differ, since I think I am living in a
fucking paradise down here in Oz, and don't think there is enough money
in the world to make me want to live in the US, or any place else other
    than here.
Do you know the expression, "Pot calling the kettle black"?

Does a year in the USA in 69-70 count? I don't believe you have any idea
what freedom is. The first two freedoms you don't have is freedom from want,
and freedom from religion. I couldn't image wanting to live in a country
that has no public health scheme and no old age pension plan as every
    citizen's right.

Just saw no country for old men; the brothers Coen postulate an alternative
solution to the deficiencies you mention; messy but effective.

If you can get an interpreter for the rural texan dialogue or go to aversion
with sub titles, Tommy Lee Jones' character has some interesting social
    commentary.

But I'm still gonna ride monument valley one day (or night).
