Oil is leaking from the unit. Is it possible to renew the inner parts
    of this thing ?
Anyone who has some experience with this overhaul ?

    Thanx

I ended up taking my XR shock to a guy in Melbourne (who I will never
use again, mind you). There are a few tricks to getting the units
apart, but after that, changing seals shouldn't be a problem. You
might have to find someone who can regas and oil the unit though,
probably easier just to take it to them and have them do the whole
    job. Where abouts are you?

    Cheers,

    Ben.

High up in Giant Little Belgium, Western Europe
I'm sure you have loooooooooooots more space to use these things.

You did try the overhaul yourself first didn't you ?
    I have also a XR250R...
What kind of tricks are you talking about ?

One of the advantages of living in Australia I guess, lots of space :)

Nah, didn't actually try the overhaul first, I couldn't work out how
to get it apart, till i'd paid the money and asked the guy how he got
it apart. Involved using a punch to remove the cap around the shock
shaft, which should expose the required clips. I've got a diagram at
home which details how to get them apart. If you send me your
    address, i'll send it over.

    What model XR250R?

    Cheers,

    Ben.

    Model 84
My son (16) uses it as a learning an training object but I'm afraid
that he's considering it already as : too slow
So I guess that the CR250 competition machine was very welcome. But
now, with that defective damper the machine throws him off (hihi).
We still have a Honda Shadow VT700 American model that he's been
puzzling together and a Kawasaki KZ1300 6-cil with very few miles on
the counter (20.000). Only the Kawa is officially mine -:)
A diagram of the damper is extremely interesting for me, can you send
me a scan of it ? Then please use : (lots of
    space).
Or do you want my postal adress ?

Aah, the 84! A mate of mine owned an 84 model for a while,
unbreakable machine! He brought it round for an oilchange one day,
just before taking off for a days ride. We put the oil in, started it
up, and it drained straight back out the driveshaft seal. We ended up
going for the days ride anyway. I guess if there's no oil in there,
theres less to leak out! Last I heard its still running, 12 months
    later!
I've always wanted to jump on a Shadow, maybe restore one oneday.
hrrm, I think so! Haven't really looked for a while though, to be
    honest.
