Not sure of the details, but Mercedes had a maunufacturing facility in Oz
where they made/assembled cars from about 1959 to 1961.

    From the National Archives
From the 1960s to the 1980s numerous motor vehicle producers established
production or assembly plants in Australia, including Toyota, Volkswagen,
    Datsun/Nissan and Mercedes.

Yeah it occurred to me this morning that its the Naked Vicar Show's fault!
It was Ross Higgins' character, always on about his Kingswood, that
elevated that name to encompass the entire HQ-HZ series!

They were still here for a long time too; just well hidden!
    The 240C, 260C, 280C and 300C were all "Cedric"s it's just that the "edric"
was left off for our market.

In response to by-laws encouraging local vehicle assembly during 1952, an
agreement was reached for the assembly of most Australian Mercedes-Benz
trucks at Merna motors. During the fifties in excess of 300 L3500, L315,
L325, L331/332 vehicles were built from SKD (semi knocked down) packs
    supplied by Mannheim and Gaggenau.

wonder if it came with a 5mm allen key ;)

Not sure I'm following you, but this is a guy on Jag-lovers, not JDCA.

Were you on the 12? Did you manage to overtake it?

  12. That would be AMI (Australian Motor Industries), you used to see AMI badges
on the front guards of some Triumphs that were assembled here (not
manufactured) from CKD(Completely Knocked Down) kits, there was some local
    content eg: glass, upholstery, tyres

  13. It's all a bit confusing with club registers, national registers and

Yeah it is at that, but then the more people collecting info the better
    - the ease of connectivity now improves the odds of people sharing their
    lists
