Have just built a roaring coal fire with a few logs chucked on for good
measure and I have to say that - once I've located them - my cockles will
shortly be warmed right through. Real fires rock or whatever the current
    jargon is.

Mostly offcuts and stuff. Lots of chipboard and MDF. Initially burns
quickly, then sits glowing for hours, while pumping out massive heat.

Asda have a "home fire log" for about £1.80, great for that instant real
fire, throw in a few peat brickets after an hour and add a bottle of
*any* Islay malt whisky for that perfect mellow glow for the perfect
    start to the weekend.

PS. I haven't seen my bikes for a couple of weeks do you think they'll
    be missing me ?

Made perfect sense last night, lucky for me I started on the Islay and
never got round to giving any to the fire :)

  12. What is it with cats and real fires? Mine lays right in front of the hearth
until he can't take the pain anymore, jumps up and runs away. Five minutes
later he is back there again and so the cycle carries on for most of the
night. If you move him away a couple of feet so he doesn't burn himself he
just gets up and moves closer again.

It funny to watch but I thought cats were meant to be clever.

Our old dog Ninja used to boil his brains next to the fire. when we could
smell singeing we'd yell at him. He'd just cock an eye open and thump his
    tail on the floor.
