That reminded me of something from my childhood.

When I was a little kid - maybe around 1960, I can remember a guy that
used to ride past my house regularly on a Heinkel scooter (hey! I was
into bikes even at that age). I can clearly remember him having a full
height screen but what was weird was that he wore a long apron-like item
of clothing that went from his neck, covering his chest, torso and legs
completely (all the way round) and clipped onto the leg-guards of the
scooter. It looked like a tonneau cover for a scooter. I've never seen
one of those (not that I have looked) since then.

    Ring any bells?

  2. There was also the canvas "lap-rug" around that era. It doubled as quite
a good cover for bike too. With a decent jacket and the tarp up to eye
level it kept you pretty comfortable and warm on cold days.

In the 50's and early 60's a laprug was obligatory wear for moto-cops
    in Perth.

I even had one on my 1957 BSA. The main drawback was for the pillion.
The end of the canvas beat their legs up.

    Sure does....
I had a similar setup on my Lambretta - back in 1961.
Full height screen, front rack, luggage rack with spare wheel, saddle bags,
    plus the canvas 'lap cover'.

Vespa still sell these as accessories on their current models (yes, even
in Australia). Last time I went past the vespa dealer in Elizabeth St
Melbourne they had one displayed on their window display bike.
