Hold on there, Snag. You gonna take that laying down? Prod him to ante up
    the figures.
You certainly have more miles under your belt than this Loozer.

  2. The man seems to be a bloke with a sense of honour.

What makes you think he will change that for your benefit?

And you have *no* idea how many miles I - or, probably, he - has
    travelled on two wheels.

Somehow , I think The Older Gentleman has more time to apply to his passion
    than I do .
At least at this point in my life <grin>

The 883 never came with black cases. Not even the exported bikes.

Actually , TOG , Wakko and I have ridden together , at least a bit . And
drank more than one bottle of Dickel ... we both attend some of the same
gatherings , and we both (usually) hang in RMH . I suspect TOG is much like
    RE ...
    There , my secret's out .
I started reading this ng a few months ago , as folks around the corner
were not as knowledgeable about the bike I got for my wife to learn on - a
rather nice '01 EX250 Ninja . It's been fun to lurk in the background , but
some of those involved in this thread are so *rabidly* anti-Harley , I could
    not help myself .
Bag Lady is my preferred ride , a very genteel lady fallen from days of
former glory . She came to me with her honor and her furniture intact - I
have the original bags , tourpak , fairing , etc . And she came with a
    factory installed hand shift ...

August 17th 1942 is the first reference I can find , and I must admit
that we place much more emphasis on the Pacific theater . Everybody counts
December 7th 1941 as when we entered the war because that's when we were
    attacked .
Ya made me look it up ...

Its a trick question Snag, the Older Gentleman may be inquiring on when
Lend/Lease commenced and we where fighting them Kraut submarines at least
two years prior to Germany officially declaring war on us. For all you
Brits, I just was poking a bit of fun, I've gotten drunk with Limeys from
Karachi, Pakistan to Portsmouth. Quickest way to get y'all excited is to
    make fun of the Beatles.

If you honestly believe that the British government didn't intervene to
attempt to save the British motorcycle industry, you need to seriously
get your arse back to school.

Or were you talking about the pedal bike industry?

Are you aware that all sorts of firms hire Porsche engineering
consulting services for all sorts of engineering technologies? That
Harley consulted with Porsche is full marks in their favor, not against
    them.

Are you aware that all sorts of European engineering firms toured
Harley's beyond state of the art painting facilities to try to learn
how to apply paint as well as Harley?

    I didn't think so.

Yeah, that's why I never saw another Harley Electra Glide or Road Glide
or Road King on the open road while riding across the U.S. and back
this past summer. Never saw one of those "cruisers" while piling up
27,000 miles in 23 months on an FLTRI, nor have I seen anyone "touring"
on a comfortable, fully faired, factory hard-luggage equipped, two-up
"highly chromed automotive spork" over the 4,000 miles I've put on my
'06 FLHXI in the last three months since picking it up.

    It just isn't *done*.

I had a Honda ST1100, nice enough bike, but it's nowhere near as
competent a tourer as a Harley dresser.

When was the last time you actually owned a Harley Davidson? During the AMF
ownership period? <chuckle>.....I've owned one for the past 5 years. 38,500
miles on the clock and the only money I've spent on it was for brake pads
and tires....I do the oil changes myself. Not one thing has fallen
off.....except the spoiled wench who said she didn't like the seat. LOL
