Turnover here refers to the financial turnover of money a company does
    per year.
I told them to think for themselves, and not rad from a script, which is
the way they'd been doing it for years, with poor results. I locked the
scripts in a cupboard and when I returned 3 weeks later found the
cupboard had been broken open and scripts back on their desks. I took
the scripts away and showed them how to talk to customers using simple
question and answer techniques. I again locked the scripts away and
warned them that if I found one script out of the cupboard then whoever
had it would be getting fired. I found all 8 scripts out on desks when i
returned again. I fired the lot of them there and then.
I wanted people who would do things the way I as their manager wanted
them doing, my brief and budget didn't allow for any other kind of
employee. If they couldn't handle that, then they were better off
working elsewhere. They weren't smarter, they proved that by making it
obvious they'd ignored what I asked them to do while I was back in the
    UK.

Don't worry, it's an American thing, turnover is the most common term in
    Europe.

Ob:Yankspeak: Sadly I found myself using the word vacation today,
twice, which I was most unhappy about.
