The prosecution presents exhibits one through twenty-nine. M'lud, you
will observe these are all RD400 logbooks.

We ask for the harshest possible treatment of the defendant.

I have nothing to say in my defence, I couldn't hear the charges through
    this darned tinitus.
It's ok, I've ridden two of them already.

Mounting is overrated. I'm retaining flexibility of application, and
    waiting for the right bike.

The later Vauxhall Novas used to have a worrying fault where if you removed
the hazard light switch, turned it upside down and "switched on" the Hazards
the ignition would come to life.

Luckily, that has quite often had the happy side effect of removing quite a
few Novas and "joyriders" from existance simultaneously after a few miles.

    Heh.

I had actually gotten it into my head that it was a C while it
languished with WUN, **** knows why. One can't really miss the seat
nacelle. I bought a D because mine was a D and I bought it in the same
year as this one is registered. Of course my original wasn't yellow,
    tastes improve over time.

So presumably the switch was supposed (when fitted normally) to break
the main loom power connection to the indicator switches, thus
preventing power from flowing back up through the indicator switches
to the main loom and powering the car without a key. It's the only
reason I can see for plumbing main loom power (or the relay
excitation, anyway) to the hazard switch.

In other words, it was designed to prevent the very security problem
that reversing the switch got round.

They could have simply put an isolating relay onto the main loom or a
separate set of contacts onto the ignition lock for the indicators.

Something like that, yep. I always just thought they'd cocked up with the
    permanant live for the hazards.

Almost every Nova GSi ended up with an expensive immobiliser system just
because the hazard light problem made them so easy to steal they were
    uninsurable.

Oh you ****. I had a Fahron kit that I sold, a new one complete with rad
    and everything required.

I really do have a medical need for another RD400, a 'how I would have
built one had I been wealthy enough in the late 70's' style one. Fahron
top end, TZ 'E' frame, Campagnolo wheels, Gibson pipes, Lockheed brakes
    etc etc.

Failing that, an RD400 bottom end with the top end from a 350 LC can
easily be done. Gives 430cc and is dead reliable. You just need the
waterpump/clutch casing from an early TZ350.

It would be worth buying that basket case, and then clagging the bits
onto a decent RD400 acquired from another auction.
