  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Salad Dodger
Good-oh. I take it you found what you were looking for.

    "Know your audience"

I feel somewhat ashamed at my lack of sensitivity of others' feelings,
posting all that stuff about riding motorcycles all over the country,
    and whatever.

    It won't happen again.

  10. You see, you're falling for the old "I'm only hearing complaints"
problem that TV/radio people get. There are 15 squillion people
reading this, and if you get some negative feedback, that's a
definite minority. They are jealous of you a) doing it in the
first place b) enjoying it c) being able to write decent amusing
    prose about it afterwards.
Also allowing people to up-score it if at all possible.

Well, I enjoy reading them too. And it makes me want to get out and do
it, except I just never get the time.
No-one is forced to read every post or thread on Usenet. Discretion is
    a good idea.

Serious lack of wossname all round. I'm disappointed.

George Bishop (RIP) was a motoring journo and a columnist for Car in the
good old days (Cropley/Green era) along with the likes of Barker, Setright,
Phil Llewellin. He would go on various manufacturers' junkets and report
only on the quality of the food and lodgings. Imagine a more curmudgeonly
    TOG...

In that particular analogy, the fact that anyone bothers to complain
is usually indicative of a larger minority who weren't happy but
didn't get off their arses and say something.

Hence why TV/radio people put more weight on complaints than you'd
    expect.
