Did you see that programme about class with Prescott?

He went to visit a couple who had nine kids. The father, who hadn't
done a days work since he was about 16, and ehn pressed by Prescott to
get out and do something said that he might like to be a window cleaner
but really wanted to work for himself. The reason he hadn't got going
was "well, I'd need to buy ladders and things".

Come come, everyone deserves the latitude to make mistakes.

We should hang them on the 4th offence.

This is exactly how I feel about so many people that moan about the UK
but continue to live there - the known, however bad, still seems
better than the unknown option of pissing off somewhere better.

I'm assuming Burnt was referring to the 'birth' of the band, rather
than its members. Anthony Kiedis is only 2 months younger than me.

    Ah.

Well it's true using Burnt's meaning of the word at any rate.

I agree. And American ones aren't much better, come to that,
expecially with all the election crap we've had to put up with
    recently.

But I've never felt like an ex-pat - somehow that implies an ongoing
connection to the 'home' country, often associated with sometimes
vague, sometimes specific, ideas about returning there at some point.
I can't see us ever wanting to move back to the UK.

  15. We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the

Dingly-dong. I can't stand the fuckwits here who complain about the
shortcomings of life in rural Ireland. So what if there's not a fucking
superstore within ten miles? Who cares if things take a little longer to
get done? Every time I look out of the window at the endless green acres
of countryside I'm glad I'm here and not still stuck in some craphole
watching my house plummet in value.

Same here. They'll carry me out of here in a pine box.

  19. There's half a dozen or so at my place.
Most of them have been here double digit years and still talk about
'home', and the things they don't like, or things they miss.

Being around some of them reminds me of some of the very reasons I left.

I (socially) avoided Brit expats when I was in NL and have done the same
here in the US. I'm reasonably sure that I'm much better off for it.
