ramps or trailer?

Well, first off we didn't go at all. This was planned for the week of
July 4th and as most everyone knows it rained all over the southern US
for most of that week. We were planning on camping and riding and
when there was rain in the forecast for 6 of the 7 days we said forget
    it.

The other issue was putting two bikes in the truck and it's a 4x4 so
it's not exactly close to the ground. We opted on the trailer just to
make it easier to load and unload the bikes.....but since we didn't go
    it is a moot point.

Well, you and I ride for different purposes I suppose. Slabbing it
down the highway just BARELY does anything for me and when I weigh in
my physical comfort and maintenance (tires? - I don't get this stuff
free like you) I'll take the truck and make it in 16 hours straight
    with tunes and cold beverages.

It's not that I've never done that before, I just don't enjoy it. I
wouldn't say I hate it, but if I am on the bike it's not to go in a
straight line for as long / far as I can.

So the correct question would be, "So, if you'd have gone, slabbing it
by truck would have been more interesting than slabbing it on a bike?"

Uh...no. I'm not sure how you got that out of what I said.

I never said it would be more interesting to slab it via truck vs.
bike. It would, however be a more efficient use of my resources (time
    and expendables such as tires).

If the point of the vacation was to ride to NC, then that would be
different. This time, the point of the vacation was to ride IN NC and
I could maximize my resources by taking the truck to slab it there.

Your original comments included reasons for not riding there. One of
them was how boring it was to slab it. It seemed reasonable to conclude
from those statements that, if that was one of the reasons to not ride,
that it would not be boring to slab it if in a cage.

    <snip>

I had originally wanted to make the trip in 10 days, but I blew my schedule
early after the first few days. And after getting a flat on a Sunday (put me
way behind) I just took my time getting back. I took 2 weeks total.

Well, all I have to say on this subject is that (at least to me) it's only a
little less boring to go on an interstate at 100 than a curvy mountain road
at 30. Topping a hill and seeing a cop gets my adrenaline up just like
topping a hill and seeing a hairpin! Hahaha

Ahhhh.... I see, but as I stated, the other is not also true (i.e.
less boring to slab it in the truck).

That's fair enough, but who rides the twisties at 30mph?

  11. BJAY: hate to say it, but that's more reasonable....but at that, that is
riding atleast 700 daily..which means, some days more, and, some less.
But, that's just me, I actually like to SightSEE....I ride witha feller
who is not much on stopping and learning some History of where it is
    that WE are AT! He's just a Rider/Rider. (wink)....chuckle...bjay

At your age, not much left for you to do.. huh, bjay ? LOL.. that's kinda
my gig, these days.. A lotta years ago, when I was the age of my good friend
Waco, I'd do a lot of things just for the hell of it, though.. He's done
some pretty spectacular long distance riding this year.. Records made and
    records broken, and all "that"..

Most of my riding for the past few years has been around the neighborhood
and occasionally a coupla hundred.. LOL.. Waco has my full support and
encouragement in his efforts.. I wish him well.. He makes most of the
so-called LD bikers look like rookies.. Better yet, he lives it while he is
    doing it.. Get it ?
