getting ready to either put the bike in the back of the truck or on a
trailer would rather not spend a bunch of money on an enclosed trailer
anybody have any dealings with putting an electraglide in a f150 6.5ft
bed pickup? sure looks to me like it could get kinda squirly.
    thanks

We hauled an Electraglide back from Houston to Denton in a pickup with a
6.5 ft. box.. The key to hauling in the bed of a pickup, as on a trailer is
the way the bike is tied off.. The loading is the trickiest part of the
entire exercise.. Better know what you are doing, even with ramps..

The trailer is easy to load, because it sits lower to the ground or
pavement.. Either way you haul, the real trick is in the way it is tied
down.. I . personally prefer not to haul my motorcycle, at all..

In the case of "have to", I'd prefer to haul it on a trailer..

nothing wrong with the bike, I only have 7 days vacation and the wife
wants to go to the Great Smoky Mountains just not enough time to ride
there and back. so I was hoping to put it in the back of the truck. we
would like to spend at least 5 days riding in the mountains
    thanks

I'll take a trailer over ramps any day. However, that isn't always
    convenient or possible.

In those cases, I'd consider what the height is of the tailgate and
can you get help both loading AND unloading it wherever it's going.

You are probably going to want at least one other person, and the more
the merrier. Also, I'm not that familiar with the Electraglide or the
F150, so you might want to take a quick measurement of the wheelbase,
but I bet it will fit.

He couldn't even ride over to Hooters? He had to haul the bike? Cheese

Dude. You're making assumptions. How do you know that he wasn't using the
fold-up ramp to load his dodge truck onto the luggage rack of his VTX?

Whatever happened to giving fellow riders the benefit of the doubt?

So, how long would you think it would take you to get there in a truck, and
why do you feel it would take longer on a bike?
I can tell you that I can get to Gatlinburg from Dallas in a day.

I can kind of understand his position. I was going to take a trip in
NC and I wanted to spend the week there camping out and riding my
    bike.

I estimated that, by bike, it was going to take me at least 2 days
there and 2 days back, maybe 3. That's between 4 and six days to get
there and back or at least more than 1/2 of the vacation.

Why? Because I don't like to slab it down the interstate for hours on
end. Major Boring Shit. My trip would involve back roads and lots of
stops to check things out....but that's what I want to do THERE, not
on the way there. It would also eat a strip on the rear tire before I
could get there. To enjoy the twisties I'd have to find a shop and
have new buns installed before I could really enjoy it.

Now, load the bike up on a trailer with my friend and we can take
turns driving and be there in about 16 hours leaving us a full week of
    riding.

I was going to explain to you why, but about half way through typing
my explanation I said **** it I don't need to explain anything. I will
say one thing. I've gotten a little older and a little wiser so I try
not to do anything the hard way.
just got a trailer this morning and plan on riding the smoky mountains
in a day and a half.

Hey bjay.. you don't know my good friend Waco, very well... Sheesh.. when
that dude makes a "run".. he's talking 9,000 miles in a week or less.. He's
promised to give me that Springer, cause he don't like it much.. Trouble is,
by the time he turns it over to me, it will be like one of the "endurance"
bikes and I'll have to rebuild it from the frame up... LOL..

Nah.. pard.. Waco rides and he don't look back.. I've been there with him,
on some day runs.. that's experience talking... Old men like us just ain't
got no business hooking up on a dude like my friend Waco.. His motto is, "if
you don't enjoy the ride, no use makin' the trip"..

days we did more sightSeeing...and only covered 100, one time, and 250
once, and so 4th....SO, you know what that means...we had to ride a few
of those 500 mile days......BW, you're right I woodnt ever team ride
with ole Wakko, cause I like to look.....and there were times, as late
as 6pm, we had to ride 3-400 miles to make our destitations....to meet
our itenary...............BUT....I was really refering to ‘not
makeing’ as good of time on a Bike compared to a Cage, as ya'll like
to call my Vehicles, with having my lovely wife with me.........got

BJAY....whatcha Mean "all I have to say"?
not blaming anything on my little woman..just makes sents, that any
Rider can ride further, & last longer by them selves......but having a
passenger aboard, by anybodys ‘means’, makes a difference......every
part of the experience is different.....boarding, unBoarding, packing,
un packing, fueling, eating, restrooming, decisions where to eat/ sleep,
when to depart, where to turn when in doubt, where to park, where to
not park, how fast, how slow, and stuff I can't recall.......or atleast
this is my experience with our wives....Our Son and his wife, three
daughters & thier husbands, two friends and their wives...
So, pard, i know how it is, and what a pleasure it is, to have one's
lovely wife along, I appreciate it so very much and feel so very lucky
that all my Family enjoys Riding Motorcycles......I am so
    blessed.....thank you, please come back

Depends on the biker and the driver.. LOL.. hell bjay.. I don't even want
to make any more of those kinds of runs.. Gotta hand it to the brothers like
my friend Waco.. Respect and admiration is his due.. I've ridden to Alaska,
