I think Ginge may have been partly responsible as well.

I was out in it, but it wasn't the worst I've been in. That was when I
was driving along the M6 earlier this year near Brum. It was as if the
Gods had decided to try and wash it from the face of the earth. The
windscreen wipers couldn't shift the water off the screen on fastest
setting. I remember being tempted, just for a second, to open the
window and stick my head out so I could see.

A year or so back I was driving a train [1] in very very heavy rain. At
about 80 - 90 mph the water flies *up* and over making an impenetrable
wall of water about 3" off the windscreen.

This was quite a laugh until a lightning strike knocked all the signals
    out.

[1] Notebooks at the ready - this was a class 319 EMU (Vic - Btn).
Class 47 locos do it as well.

Yeah. The windscreen wipers had trouble keeping up at one point.

  9. Actually it's completely true - there was next to no rain in East
London. Yes there were horrendous problems on the tube (as well as
roads, buses, trains and pavements) but if the water is seven inches
higher than the electrical current rails or if lightning blows out the
signals it's a bit hard to run trains. LU may get blamed for many things
but I'm not sure we are officially in charge of the weather.

Heh, I was having that problem, but it wasn't helped by the great
waves of filthy water being thrown over the car by the oncoming
traffic. The road was more like a river.

    Impressive thunder'n'lightning though.

Give it attention, and you encourage it; ignore it
and it will wither for lack of energy and use.

    No they're fucking not.

Tuesday, booked on 6.20 flight to Dusseldorf. Arrive at Heathrow at 5.
Can't get into airport because no flights are leaving due to planes
    being elsewhere because of storms.

    ****.

End up being allowed through to the lounge, blag my way onto a flight
*meant* to leave at 16:30; had to downgrade to economy- got a middle
seat which I hate because my shoulders were touching the blokes on
either side. Plane doesn't board until 19:00, takes off at 21:30...
get to my hotel at 23:45. Work, read, sleep.

Wednesday booked on the 20:05 back to Heathrow. Call travel agent at
lunchtime to check plane still flying, promised faithfully it was and
that they would phone me if it cancelled. At 16:55 got a call from my PA
[1] saying that she'd booked me onto another flight but I had to be at
the airport in 15-20 minutes. Ran out of office, got a taxi, bribed
driver to drive like a ****. Got to the airport on time. Other airline
wouldn't accept my ticket so had to buy another. Had to run about
10mins through airport with luggage in a suit and heels[1]. ****.

Get to gate as it's closing sweating like a pig. Fly into London City,
refuse to pay 70 quid for a cab to Heathrow so take bus, tube, heathrow
express to Heathrow (to get my car back). Get home at about 22:30.

So, in retrospect no. Storms aren't sexy. Fucking cunts the lot of
    them.

[1] Admittedly shared with another manager.
[2] Only joking, they're the pad things that make it look like I've got
    an extra two inches.

It can apply to many situations.

It's one of those sig things. Some are random, some are not and some
of the random ones are surprisingly apt at times.

I shall leave it as an exercise for the reader to discern if they gain
anything meaningful from the phrase and the various levels of thought
    process behind it.

My mistake; should have said 18:20...

I had been in the office at 8AM though.

I sometimes wonder if I want it. Still, looking on the bright side
    er...

  17. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember saying
    something like:
Is there a shortage of heels?
