Rain tires: sport or sport touring?

  1. Hi all,
Background: I live in Switzerland and though we've been having the best
summer in decades, I'm already planning my tire choice for the
autumn/winter. I ride a lot in winter (my ZX-6R 636 is my main mover:).
I've heard people telling me that the best choice/compromise between wear
and grip is to use a sport tire in front (eg. Pilot Sport or BT 011/010)
and a sport tourer tire (eg. D 205 or Metzeler ME Z4) at the back. I read
two comparison articles in a german magazine: one about sport tourer tires
(not available online anymore) and the other about purely sport tires
    (http://212.86.161.2/MRD/Reifentest2001/9_0/c_9_0.stm). Looking mainly at
the wet grip characteristics, it seems the Pilot Sport and the ME Z4 are
    the best in each category.
My question is quite simple :): Do sport tires "stick" better in wet/cold
conditions or are sport tourer tires better for not needing warm-up time
to stick (keyword: silica)? Or put another way:
Should I get a ME Z4 for the front during the winter or will the Pilot
Sport still be better at cold conditions/not warmed-up?
I've been using Pilot Sports since I started riding (half a year
    ago).
    TIA,

No unfortunately, I'm not aware of any traduction. I could traduce
the left column, the rest should be pretty clear (isn't it?).
Let me know. Otherwise a dictionary or babelfish may help.

  3. Yep you are (partly) right. It still depends on your skills but the roads are
like you say. Just 20 mi around my town, there are... wait I'll count... six
mountain passes with at least 1200 ft altitude difference and nice twisty roads.
And I don't really live close to the alps.
    OK, enough advertisement :))
