I know some of you use radios when out and about. I'm thinking of
investing.........Is there a channel number that is used most?

    Posting at the bottom, mainly.

Otherwise it would be like pressing send to receive, IYSWIM.

Use the public band IIRC PMR 256. There are usually 15 channels but
each one has sub DQT mode so really there's a huge combination and you
    are unlikely to get crosstalk.

Err, not quite right. In the UK and most of Europe PMR446 (8 channels)
is unlicenced and so is common for bike-to-bike. Although unofficial,
it seems channel 8 is emerging as a call channel. The protocol uses the
standard CTCSS tones if you would rather not hear others outside your
    pre-selected calling group.

I think you are thinking of the FRS system in the land of the free
    Molly.

That's what I'm after, I will be using PMR so channel 8 it is then.

    Thanks

I'm reading from my Kenwood TK3101 and that has 15 Channels?

    *checks again*

Hmmm, you're right. 8 RF 446 channels but 15 channels overall
    http://www.sigmavoice.co.uk/RADIO/kenrd1.htm
    Probably.

I got one of them too. I got the US model though which is 2W ;-)

It's got 15 presets which can be programmed with various frequencies /
    CTCSS combinations.
