R1100RT

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Carmichael, Jan 23, 2006.

  1. Friend of mine has his heart set on buying a R1200RT. Are they any good?
He wants one to commute from here to Málaga (60km).

    Anything to look out for?

Where can he buy one? He wants to buy one from UK because bikes are
about 2/3 the price compared to here.

I realise that this is a crap post and I should just google, but I want
someone else to do the work for me/him. Also, I reckon there's bound to
be a few folks here that have owned such a beast.

Oh, and if you could reply in spanish, that would be a bonus.

Assuming your header is a typo:

Wik had an R1200RT in France as a loaner when his GS died. He did a review
    when he got back.

  3. Erm, thanks. Perhaps I'll email Rik and ask him. Although, I believe
that this is actually what newsgroups are for.

  7. Hola! :)

R1200RT. Plenty of English language sites devoted to the model. A quick
    google will soon identify them.

Having moved on from my R1150RT, I have covered just over 1100 miles to
    date on my R1200RT.

    The "pluses":

    Lighter weight
    Bigger fuel tank
Smoother fuelling (none of the R1150 snatchiness when reopening the
    throttle)
    Smoother running (counterbalanced engine)
    Improved headlights
    Slicker gearchange
    Taller screen
Fairing looks sparser than the all-enclosing version on the R1150RT,
but is at least *as* effective at keeping the rider dry and makes
cleaning the engine much easier to accomplish

    The "minuses":

Glovebox is on the wrong (right hand) side of the bike, IMO, and is
narrower than the left hand-located recepticle on the R1150RT
Brakes not as powerful as those on the R1150RT (some might find the
1200's 'softer' brakes prefereable, but I miss the "arrester cable on
an aircraft carrier" levels of retardation).

So, nothing major to gripe about.

    HTH

    Adios! :)

  11. Never intended to retire before age 50. Just had a couple of years off.
Gotta flog one remaining house in the YUK and then, well, who knows...
Only spend around 10 - 15 euros per day on beer. Maybe then a whisky or two.
"Not required at the moment, but I'll keep your details on file..." I've
read that line too many times.

And I'll not bother reading further into this thread.

  13. I don't remember going to great pains to assure anyone of that, but it's
    true.

I might have 4 bottles of San Miguel in the pm and the balance of
5 or 6 in the evening. Sometimes I drink Estrella Damm (in spite of the
boycot - 'cause I like it). ED costs 2 euros a 1/2 litre and SM is
    between 1 and 1.5 a bottle.

If that makes me an alcoholic then I know some people with some *real*
    problems.

    <waves>

The highlight of driving to Spain used to be crossing over from France
to Spain because once you were in Spain you could buy bottles of SM
from petrol stations whereas in France it was all non alcoholic beers.
