R1 - opinions please

In my search for a track bike, I saw an ad today in a costa ad-rag for
an R1.

1999
12k kms
Been binned - had to have a new front wheel and new plastics (hit kerb
apparently).
"Race tuned" bollocks. K&N, DynoJet & Micron end can.
Says "road legal" but has no MOT or ITV (spanish MOT).
If it was in UK could probably get done for advertising as legal.
Used 3 times in the last 3 years.

Instinct says either "run away" or go and look and offer 4k. Test ride
is available.

What thinketh the experts.

If it hit hard enough to damage the wheel that much, I'd be wary of
the forks and frame being not too straight.

 

I'm a bit scared.

He's asking 6k euros, and like I say, he claims it's road legal and with
all road plastics. The advert doesn't mention the bin or the lack of
MOT, so I feel a tad loath to do business with the guy.

I tried to buy a bike in this group, but noone would sell me one.

Buy mine for £ 3.5k - Yr 2000 18k miles all original never been dropped.

 

For that sort of money you could come back to the UK, buy one and trailer it
back for less IWHT.

 

Bit of a waste for chucking around a track.

Just heard back and he's got 2 R6s that need to go. He also has an R1
but that'll be the thick end of 5k.

Don't want to spend 5k on a track bike, but might be interested in an
R6. Slight problem with logistics ´cause, as Rob mentioned, I'd have to
get it here somehow. Let me know some details if you would please.
