Quiet Sat arvo and being bikeless I threw some bike gear in the back of
the car headed to a moto dealer in ACT with the intention of riding my
    first R1.

Last bike was 90's GSXR11 so to me this thing was for all intents and
purposes a 600...until I twisted my right hand. 20 minutes up and down
the old Federal Hwy and I was convinced this thing was absolutely
useless to me unless I had a private track at my disposal.

I understand 600s and 750s now, R1 is beyond me, like my parents said
when I first saw the ocean as a toddler - "too big, too full!"

I went away seriosuly considering sport-tourers something I didn't think
I be contemplating just yet (I'm 33). I remember having quite a lot of
fun test riding a Royal Star a few years ago, w/ set of pipes (detuned
V-max motor in a cruiser for those that don't know it). Fun that's what
it's all about - I need to keep that it perspective, no matter what the
    wheels.

Yep, my thoughts exactly, I was wondering why you would take an R1 tp the
Old Hwy, I thought a quick sqirt up black mountain or even down across
Coppins Crossing and to the Cotter might give you some idea....

I havnt ridden one myself but a visit to Action might be on the cards as
well......... just to get an idea of what they are really like...... I get
enough of a rush from my CBR600 but have often wondered

f that! i've already lost my license on the 250! just a lapse of
concentration can have the coppers whirling their sirens.

try and keep the speed within 80km/hr with a sportsbike. i find that
harder than crusing in 3rd or 4th gear (which is relatively about +110).
and on a 2 stroke that's even harder.
