R 1100 Rt or Pan

  1. I am wondering if any one has any feedback regarding the above two bikes.
Got a Blackbird at the minute need to change for something that I can
commute to London on and still ride and enjoy at the weekend?

  3. I've never owned a Pan but I was talking to a TNT courier who had one
today at the Oxford services. It was an ex-police bike and was on it's
    260,000th mile.

OTOH, I've had a R850R for less than a week and it's broken down once
and bits don't work that should.

Make of that what you will.

I've not ridden the R1100RT, but as a 'spirited' Pan rider I can
testify that they commute very well and can be great fun to ride, just
    for the pleasure of it.

As Simes says, the ABS version is probably a good idea. If you haven't
got ABS you just need to plan ahead a bit more. It also returns an
average of 45mpg - although I have have got down in the low 30s on
    occassions.

Try and get a test ride on both bikes and see which suits.

Got a mig welder here, we could make a modern art sculpture out of it.

  9. I have ridden examples of the 1100 Pan on two occasions (covering some
320 miles on one run) and have owned an R1150RT for 21 months and
18,000 miles. It is hard to define precisely why, but I doubt I would
buy a Pan with my own money. I simply prefer the looks and individual
characteristics of the RT. The RT recently returned 53 mpg on one
"making progress" cross-country run from Northampton to Bristol and
back, has never returned less than 48 mpg and also gives its tyres
(Avon Azaros) a fairly easy time.

Your final choice may come down to the quality of dealer backup
available in your locality - unless you will be maintaining and
    servicing the bike yourself.
