Quote of the week

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jun 9, 2007.

  1. From a protestor against the G8 summit, and reported on Capital Radio.

"Just because we're anarchists doesn't mean we don't know how to
    organise things...."

Someone, perhaps, doesn't understand anarcho-syndicalism in the context
    of the protesters comments...

    Er, and?

Anarchy doesn't mean chaos, as you should well know.

In politics "anarchy" means "no rulers". It doesn't mean "no rules".

Still a fucking humorous quote. Humour doesn't *have* to be strictly
accurate in its use of words - in fact, a lot of humour depends on verbal
    ambiguity and misunderstanding.

As a pissflapping newbie ****, there's a lot of the ukrm back story I don't
know yet. I'll take your word for that.

Godwin never went in for organised labour (he pre-dates it, so not really
his fault). Other than reason isn't an independent principle - but TBH
I'm very sketchy on anarchist theory.

  11. The man's got a point though. Quite apart from all anarchists being
wankers of the first order, that is.

  17. Because if everybody's looking after themselves or their own immediate
group (with no rulers outside of that), what happens to social
responsibility on the wider scale? It cannot simply be left to good
intentions - they don't work too well on a large scale, and some system
of government is needed to make sure that wealth is earned and
distributed and public health is looked after.

A society of some sort. Most Anarchists haven't really thought it
    through.

Take the example of somebody who wants to go a live on a hillside and be
    an Anarchist, man.
Well fine - he can build a log cabin, make his bed and chair out of pine
or hazel and he can kill a rabbit or two and plant his garden. He can
knock down a tree or two and burn it for cooking with. This is grand in
the summer - he might actually survive, but what happens in the winter
when he runs out of food or fuel? Normally, he'd nip down the village
shop and score some paraffin or gas to heat and cook with, but yer true
Anarchist is trying to be totally self-sufficient and have nothing to do
    with the Man.

It all starts to make no sense at all when you consider just how
interactive we all are in every act of consumption we partake of. We
totally depend on each other as far as food, fuel, furniture,
transportation, etc, go. All those jobs that are a necessary part of the
infrastructure all have to be filled by people and they are all part of
the System - the System that yer true Anarchist doesn't want anything to
    do with.

Meanwhile, up on the hillside, yer Anarchist is slowly starving and
freezing to death because he's sticking by his principles, the fecking
    eejit.

They might use a T Square or string so straight lines aren't a problem,
they just won't know how long they are.
