Quis custodiet, and all that

Hard on the heels of tales of MPs ripping the system, we have this
    lowlife:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12154627

A copper who used his position to approach women in trouble and offered
them assistance, in return for "sexual favours". A serial offender,
according to reports, and not a nice bloke.

So he's handed down two life sentences - and the next paragraph states
he could be elegible for parole in seven and a half years. That seems
a little askew, to say the least.

The question is - who CAN you trust these days?

Yes, it does - but don't forget that's only "eligible to apply for
parole" - he won't necessarily get it. And even if he does, he'll be on
life licence - the first hint of an accusation of any other offence, and
he's straight back inside to do some more of those life sentences. No
need for all that trial and "found guilty" stuff.

I think the first application for parole on a life sentence is usually
turned down as a formality anyway.
    Quite.

  4. A showing of such initiative should be rewarded. Let's be honest, any
woman who was likely to take him up on it was probably desperate
    herself.

The way our prisons are mismanaged he will be lucky to survive 7.5 years.
The screws will hate him because he got through the police selection
process and obviously the cons will have him marked as a bent cop & a
    rapist.
Nobody. We're on the BUS to Purgatory.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks more than a bit like someone (OK,
make it two someones to perpetuate a meme) on this newsgroup?

    Quite.

    Either shave or don't.

I've always been extremely wary of any man who shaves and yet still has
    facial hair.

    I don't have sideburns.
I'm sure I don't know why. I shave, and afterwards I have no facial
    hair.

    My point exactly, Watson.
Speaking as a man who has currently largely disappeared behind his own
    hirsuity, I can only agree.

I met Bear a couple of weeks back. I had to /look/ twice just to make
sure, given the lack of silly beard or pony-tail.
