quietest helmet?

Any recommendations out there as to what you consider to be the quietest helmet?

I have heard good things about the Baehr Sonic and the FM W10.

I'm looking to reduce the dB levels I'm receiving on the highway with my Shoei R-FR.

    Thanks.

    Earplugs? Fitted, custom moulded ones?

Uvex seem to be very highly rated round here.

    "Earplugs" were covered, not "helmets".

    Thanks for nothing.

I got quite a good reduction in noise by fitting a Foggy breath
deflector thingy, mainly, I assume, because it let me ride with the
    visor closed.

The quietest helmet is the helmet which fits you best. It's a tedious
matter of trial and error ... and luck ... and judgement ... and your bike's
    aerodynamics ... and money ...

and, as Ben Blaney said, earplugs. I have a Schuberth, and it works very
well for for me. Other people swear at 'em, instead of by 'em.

I think this is a pretty pointless question as there are too many
variables involved. How good a fit the helmet is, how much care you take
over seating the visor, how tall you are & what bike your ride (I.e.
head/screen relationship and the angle of your head), what clothing you
wear (does it channel the air flow towards or away from the base of the
helmet), how big your ears are, whether your ears are
high/low/forward/backward relative to your head etc.

E.g. my Lazer Revolution, which is generally considered a noisy helmet,
is quieter than my Shoei when riding the Tiger, but louder when riding
the MV. This is probably due to the vastly different angles of my head
    between the two bikes.

So I would guess the best recommendation anyone could give is that
helmet A is quieter than helmet B _for them_ on a _specific bike_. That
doesn't mean it will be quieter for you on your bike, unless you're the
same height, with the same preference for fit, and the same shaped head,
    on the same bike.

Of course if you find the right earplugs for your shaped ears, and wear
them every time, the helmet noise is irrelevant. If you don't wear
earplugs, you will eventually suffer hearing loss, unless you ride a
bike that lets you sit in a bubble of still air behind a screen.

    All imho natch.

You appear to have mis-spelled "CONT".

Bollocks, they were. Last week's thread was "Mini Review Aprilia RSV"
(though why someone on this NG would be interested in a version of the
Bible is beyond me), and the OP was Milly R. Dunno what bike she rides,
    though.

    All good points.

    I have a Suzuki Burgman 650.

I had a GIVI windscreen, but it got vandalized somehow, and I am
replacing it with an Ermax. If I were a few inches shorter, I'd be in
the "bubble", but I actually look over the top of the windscreen. The
Ermax is taller than the GIVI was.

I'm leaning towards a Shark RSF helmet at the moment, as they scored
at the top of the sound insulation rankings.

Now that I'm enlightened about the need for earplugs, I have a pair on
    order.

    Thanks for the [constructive] comments.

*A* pair? You may want to get more than a single pair.

For everyday use I actually find the "Muffles" wax plugs from Boots are very
good. I can't seem to get foam plugs to stay in my ears for very long.

Now I've started doing a job where more travelling is required, I'm tempted
to go for a proper set of custom moulded ones.

Unfortunately you're about to discover that finding the right earplugs
for your shaped ear is even harder than finding the right helmet. You
may have to try several types before finding one that fits properly. You
can buy selection packs that contain various types, which is probably
the best way to go. If you're lucky, the type sold by farm/industrial
suppliers will fit, & you can save a (small) fortune by not buying them
    from a bike shop.

As you haven't used them before, I'd recommend getting your GP to have a
quick check in your ears. If you've got a build-up of loose wax, you'll
go completely deaf when you start using the earplugs as they push all
the wax in against your ear drum. DAMHIKIJFD.
