As subject, need a new helmet soon - looking for the quietest, full face one
    I can find for touring.
Anyone any suggestions for me think about ?

    Thanks,

    Nick

BMW do a good flip top/ full face. Not sure who manufactures them for
BMW. I am sure that Lozzo will have the good oil on that? Could be
that they are cheaper if bought under their own brand name.

After speaking to coppers who use the BMW System flip-fronts, I wouldn't
recommend them. As well as being heavy, draughty and noisy compared to
the competition, they are very expensive.

I quite like the Nitro F317-V[1] because it's the quietest helmet I've
ever had, and it's only 90 quid. Comes in plain colours or graphics,
fibreglass construction, fully vented, has a removeable/washable liner,
cheekpads in different sizes etc etc. Very very quiet and comfy.

Other helmets are available, please check availability, interest rates
may go up or down, your house may be at risk if you do not keep up the
    repayments.

[1] Darren, let me know what size you want by email please.

  7. Schuberth. Concept is flip-front. S2 is full-face. www.schuberth.de.

  8. IME: Schuberth S1, but IMHO earplugs remain a "must" whatever helmet
    is being worn.

Thanks for replies so far - I have tried a friend's new BMW flip-up front
£400 odd helmet and thought it was noisy and draughty at even relatively low
    speeds.
It was so bad I thought it was faulty, yet he thought it was good ! So to
calibrate my expectations, The BMW flip-up front helmet is "2 out of 10",
no, lets say "1 out of 10" as its so expensive as well.

Someone else did suggest it was "not much cop" (ho ho ho) as well, so the
other suggestion is the Schuberth suggestion which I do know is reckoned to
be worth a try if I can find one somewhere.

    Anyway, will keep researching.....

Wot Paul said. S1s are very quiet compared to most helmets, but you
need to pay attention to the airflow over/under the helmet as that can
    make a noticeable difference.

  11. Precisely as I reported in an earlier thread. When my RT was in for a
service, the dealer loaned me an R1100R, and it was a noticeably
quieter environment inside the S1 on the unfaired bike than on my own.
The same applies when I adjust the screen position on the RT: with the
screen dowm - even at speed - it is quieter inside the S1 than with the
screen raised to its highest position (which, given my height, is where
it spends most of the time).

The voluminous S1 handbook (the "War and Peace" of helmet
manufacturer's information to users?) goes into some detail on the
effects of motorcycle aerodynamics (or lack thereof) on the noise
    levels inside the helmet.
