I've got a Shoe XVR-900 which I have decided is simply too noisy.
Despite wearing ear plugs, on a windy day the noise level is terrible.
Can anyone recomend a quiet lid for high motorway miles ?I have been
    thinking about this one:

Unfortunatly there is no such thing as 'try before you buy ' with
    helmets :(

My ears are definiatly suffering though I think !

AFAIK the S1 is even more quiet. I've been pretty happy with mine since
I finally got a pinlock visor for it.

Oh, and get some earplugs first.

Have you considered a helmet curtain? They stop the majority of wind
    rattling your ears.

My Schuberth QM1 is not bad, but the Uvex Wing was better IMHO.

That'd be a Shuberth C2 then. I bought one when my Shuberth Concept was
getting a bit long in the tooth. Although the C2 was quieter, I think
that was only true while it was new. Now, just like the original Concept
it's as loud as ****. It's just got too many holes and protrusions
to be quiet. I usually wear ear plugs 'cos at any reasonable speed it
drowns the sound from my DAB/MP3 thingie. Also be aware that replacement
visors are nearly 40 notes, which would be fine if the coating didn't
vanish after the first rain shower.

It's loud whether it's behind the barn door on my beemer, or in the
clear air of my Mostro. Why do I use a Schuberth? I like flip fronts
and unlike a Shoei the visor retainer doesn't fly off into the gutter.
If they were the right shape for my head I'd probably wear a Roof Boxer,
but if you want quiet, you want a smooth full face helmet. I have tried
a Silentium, which is like riding inside a tomb, but nobody seems to
import them nowadays (Dave Bickers used to.)
    Wot, no friends?

Turn up the radio/cd/iPod until you can't hear the wind.

C2 was the quietest I've owned but now seems to get a little louder
    every time I wear it.

Also, I don't like the weight and the poorly designed 'left hand only'
    latch is a minor PITA.

I was thinking more along the lines of Viv Westwood, but at a pinch, Laura

You only do that to blot out strange and new engine noises.

I'm living in Turkey at the moment and round here the helmet curtain is
removed at about age 7. The tradition is to parade the curtain helmeted
one around town in a pick up truck in some kind of little prince costume
with a band in the back of another one. All of the family will be in
other vehicles sounding horns and making lots of noise prior to the
    removal of the curtain.

I believe however that during and of course post removal the helmet can
    be a bit noisy.

I had no idea it could be refitted.

The Arais I've owned have been fine. My new one is wonderfully quiet
compared to the Shoei, Uvex and Nitro lids I've been using for the
past 6 or 7 years. It all depends on your head shape, position of
ears on your head, the bike you ride, where you ride and how fast -
you can't just say "all Arais are noisy", that's bullshit. Buy the lid
that fits properly and wear earplugs as recommended by any serious
    motorcyclist and you'll be fine.

When I was selling Arais I sold very few spare parts considering the
numbers we used to sell new at Gericke.
