How odd, have you got the little padded ear bits properly velcroed in place?
I took mine out when I did the DAS due to the earpiece, and found that once
reinstalled there was a noticeable drop in noise.

Anyway, the consensus seems to be that earplugs are a good idea, so I will
now give it a try as I am sure my hearing (like certain other faculties) is
beginning to desert me and I wouldn't want to exacerbate the situation.

I was talking about golf practice[1], not ramming them up my arse.

You might try buying a pair of proper 'ear defenders'. I wear them
when using the lawnmower or the chainsaw and for significant drilling
into concrete. They cut the sound _much_ more than earplugs with the
added advantage of being removable when you want to talk to someone.

Bike's are bosh, PC's are pointless, and the 1990's are nuts!
Bikes are great, PCs are super, and the 1990s are the time to be!
Save the apostrophe! Get 'em right! If in doubt, leave 'em out!!

  6. Very wise. The received wisdom (sic) in my neck of the woods is that
it's not the time you spend on the bike that matters, but the speed.
This questionable wisdom says that above about 40 mph the noise in the
    helmet gets to dangerous levels.

But most importantly, the damage is cumulative, and that is *not*
received wisdom but a medical fact. A 20 minute bimble over 40 mph
takes 20 minutes off the day when conversation in the pub gets hard, and
your mate and children complain about the TV being up too loud.

A police rider at 70mph receives the maximum legal daily noise
exposure in 15 minutes (which is why one of them sued the Home
    Office).

    hehehe

Somebody here must convert that into a little flash game,
a la the Penguin punch. I could imagine it being a huge
    success.
