    Hi,

If you've a quiet helmet - can you post which one?

My AGV X-Vent was very quiet, far more so than my current Arai Astro.

I've just opened the cupboard where my helmet is and it's very silent in
    there.

Yeah, my X-Vent was very quite too, but I only really noticed it when I
switched to my current AGV V-Flyer.

My HJC (AC-10) is not bad at all IME, but then it's my first helmet so I
cannot compare it to any others.
I haven't ever felt the need to wear earplugs though.

  16. A bad decision.

Earplugs protect you from high-frequency noise which by definition you
don't hear. If you don't wear plugs you *will* begin to lose high-
frequency hearing, which means "th" and "s" sounds will get very fuzzy.
And once lost, they are *gone*, you can't get them back again.

We should *all* wear ear plugs.

Bike's are bosh, PC's are pointless, and the 1990's are nuts!
Bikes are great, PCs are super, and the 1990s are the time to be!
Save the apostrophe! Get 'em right! If in doubt, leave 'em out!!

Can you direct me to any research articles which advocate the blanket usage
of earplugs whilst riding a motorcycle?

    TIA

I'm a relatively recent convert to earplugs. It's amazing the amount
of the high-pitched whistle they cut out. So it makes things more
comfortable. But you can still hear all the important stuff. They
make you more comfortable with going faster, too - dunno why. One of
the mags included earplugs in a list of cheap performance
    enhancements.

Obviously, I don't bother if I'm nipping to the shops, but for
anything over, say, twenty miles, I'd shove them in.

Personally, I can't be arsed with all the rolling and fucking about -
though those ones apparently stop more noise. I use "Quiet" earplugs,
which have a little bit of matchstick inside to shove them into your
lughole. A half-second per side, it takes to put them in. They're
about a quid a go if you buy them from a bike shop. Get them in bulk
    from here:

    http://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/4/index.htm

The ones I use are fifth in the list.

I got my uncorded max ear plugs from there as well and they get a
    recommendation from me too.

Mine are the roll type ones and I honestly find them no hassle at all.

I can't remember what make mine are - it's been a while since I bought them.
They've been in use for at least a couple of months, and may have been
through the wash once or twice.
