Quick VED question

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Dr Ivan D. Reid, Jun 29, 2005.

  1. So, the VED/SORN form says the MoT certificate must be valid on
the day the tax disc commences. I need one from 1st July. My last MoT
test was on 2nd July so the expiry date is 1st July. Any bets as to
whether the Post-Office will sell me the disc?

I can see a quibble coming on ...

I'd get in there and get the disc asap, Ivan. The'll still moan a
bit, but the chance of refusal is minimised.

  3. Thanks Pip.

Any idea why I got this?

IMO you should be OK - if everythings valid for the date you go in and it's
valid sometime in that month it's a good'un. I only know 'cos I tried renew
SOC tax last week of the month before it was due and my insurance ran out
before the start of the new tax disc. There was quite a long queue when I
    left without my disc ;-)

  5. they have a legal requirement to do so but considering the amount of
numbties behind the counters these days you may be pushing it

  6. I taxed Andy's 9R a while ago with IIRC a day to go. buy it today and
    you should be ok.

It originates from a "forum": motorcyclenewsgroups.com, the propietor
of which posted here a couple of weeks ago to let us know that our
output would be duplicated on his forum. It seems that everybody with
an unmunged/valid email address in their headers now gets an email
confirming a reply has been made to their post, when it appears on his
    thrice-damned forum.

    Raving fucking mad, eh?

Actually, I've been pondering this. This is unsolicited email, innit? I
mean, there's a law and everything.

    Can we burn him now?

well, it is, but you'll only get one of the messages ever, unless you
sign up for the service and ask for more.

It's a pity really, as it's a useful google-fallback site for those of
us behind nntp-port blocking. I can't help thinking this "first time
spam" thing is shooting themselves in the foot.

You can also use talkaboutmotorcycles.com when Google Groups
    has gone tits-up.

yeah, I know, except when Google Groups appears to "stall" and not
receive updates, talkabout... seems to stop too, almost as if it's
accessing Google as its "server"; the motorcyclenewsgroups service
seems to get it's stuff from another newserver.

The newer service is also marginally better for reading, and *much*
    better for posting than talkabout.
